    Uruguay - "Baby Football"

    https://www.theguardian.com/football...arez-world-cup

Interesting comments from Diego Godin on why Uruguay, a country with a population smaller than our home state, excels at football.

Apparently we're *too* easy on the kids, coaches, etc:

"Sometimes the parents are the worst: fighting with the coach, opponents, the kid. Demands are made on children that shouldn’t be: seven-, eight-, nine-year-olds with obligations and responsibilities they shouldn’t have. That’s not good, but the truth is it does push players: they improve, compete, grow."

Pro soccer is a desired career elsewhere in the world. Here it's about college. When soccer is your only path you will push yourself as hard as you can.
