The competition is too strong, and some students may be late bloomers so their cumulative GPA wasn't the greatest but they show progressive improvement. That doesn't mean they aren't very bright and can't succeed at a certain school. They also know that a certain %age of freshmen will either drop out or transfer out.

When narrow down the subgroups get reality. 55,862 total undergraduate & graduate, Select 2017, Select freshmen to narrow to 2,959 freshmen, Select gender males to narrow down to 1,224 freshmen boys, then about 23% of the boys are from out of state (282 boys), ..
leaving only 942 FRESHMEN BOYS FROM IN-STATE -headcount FALL Cohort 2017.
Then can narrow down by race groups even more. The chances of getting in as a male as a freshmen is slim- less than one boy a high school in Florida.
Then ask the question why must we push our high school males to take full college loads of AP and DE classes in high school? Let them be normal high school students and transfer into college like all the other community college students will do in two years.

The mean GPA for the incoming admitted class at UCF is 4.0. The students must take honors and college prep classes in high school or they will be at the community college working their way into UF in two.

Schools that aren't so prestigious are actually seeing some declines in enrollment, and a few underperforming schools are already closing their doors or will in the next 5-10 years. Doesn't help that demographics aren't in their favor with a big population bust after this year.

It's already easier for girls to play soccer in college. Do colleges need to do more to equal out the gender diversity of those admitted? UF admits 20% more girls than boys in its freshmen class.

The only truth known is personal experience having a very qualified student who did not get accepted. Then see the other talented students who did not get accepted, like only a handful from one of the top public highschools in Florida and those who got in are not accepting because UF is below their 4.6 genius. Then you look at the thousands of successful students all over the state and even alumni children with 1400s not getting in. UF admissions says on the phone "we have lots of 1400 students we are not admitting" like they are proud of it. NotOurUofF

A friend admitted she is preparing her daughter and spouse that their very smart daughter may not be a Gator like they were. Taking some college road trips to Alabama and Auburn over the summer.
