Everyone is pretty blown away by this part of the scandal, that Singer could get these coaches to play along. People are far less surprised by the special favors for donations, test cheating etc

I don't envy the new coach stepping into this hot mess.
Following the money would be easy. If the Asst Coaches were involved, that would have come out. Yale said the coach acted alone. Should the assts been skeptical when a recruit didn’t show up to play or wS lousy? Maybe, but it doesn’t sound like it was a regular occurrence. Plus, maybe they thought he was doing a family a favor, but I doubt very much they thought the favor was being returned. Donations to the programs happen all the time, but that money goes to the school and isn’t illegal.

New coach will be fine. None of this has anything to do with him. Will the recruits be closely scrutinized? I’m sure, but that will be the same everywhere now. Including at scholarship schools. A full ride kid sitting on the bench is going to attract scrutiny, to the point where the coach might play them. Going to be interesting that’s for sure.

Latest update is that RM asked players to write his grad school papers for him. The hits keep on coming.

I've seen signs that at least a couple of RM's 2020 class have 'changed plans'? I guess it would make some sense for a new coach, under these circumstances, to back away from all of the old staff's recruits.

Have there been any new commits yet by the new coach? It's still Yale after all, there will be interest... but I imagine the will be scrutiny on everything the new staff does for awhile.

Yale already said that no other staff member or coach was involved. All clear. Try to keep up.

To paraphrase Sam Rothstein from "Casino", "Either he was in on it or he had his head up his ass. Either way he's too stupid to work here." Words to live by.

TP definitely knew what was going on, if not he is a bigger moron than what he looks like

That’s uncalled for. And if there was any indication that he was involved, don’t you think the feds would have known that? It’s oretty easy to connect the dots. But both the feds and Yale said it was a one man show, so I’m not sure what to tell you. Kids use soccer to get into the Ivies all the time and then decide not to play. I bet every single Ivy school could name kids that have done that to them. It also doesn’t sound like it was an every year occurance. 1-2 kids over 20+ years isn’t exactly a red flag.

He obviously wasn’t in on it, dummy or he would have been in the papers. Should he have known? Why? His boss tells him to put one kid on in 15 years who ends up not playing? Even if he was suspicious or mad that a spot was wasted, he probably thought RM was doing someone a favor to get money for the program. No chance he thought RM was getting paid for it. If it was every year for 5 years in a row, then fair enough. The feds followed the money trail. RM’s wife wasn’t even implicated and I’m sure they shared a bank account. Use your head, man. It’s that lump of goo on top of your shoulders.

Coaches doing favors for friends or rich alumni donors happens with no money actually changing hands. It's one of many gray areas in the admissions process that tips the scales towards affluent and connected families. Schools need to figure out their own systems to monitor this behavior - if they even want to. Tying to legislate it will be impossible to execute. People will always found ways around the law, legal and illegal.

TP did 100 percent of the recruiting. RM did none. Must have been a bit strange when one of their slots disappeared and no kid on roster?

Even if that were the case, when the boss asks you to put a kid on the list, what is your choice? And as someone else said, kids decide not to play more than you’d think in the Ivies and with no scholarships, you have no leverage.
