    GDA v ECNL - 2018

Just saw the U17 girls national team roster was announced and they selected 20 of the 24 players from the new GDA (surprise, surprise). USSF clearly making a statement.

ECNL will have a tough time marketing against this.....

Battle for players in CT: FSA/CFC versus OW/NYSC/NYCFC.

Not really. ECNL markets college showcases not national team selection.

Who cares. Its all kids from other regions. We get maybe one kid every few years. If you are good enough they will find you.

If you are at Academy with the goal of making the NT, you have real issues.

No surprise, you're reading that wrong, those girls where already YNT players prior to U17 and in ECNL. 20 decided to switch to GDA, 4 didn't.

I think the point is that if you want to be considered for YNT programs in the future, you better get your butt over to the GDA.

NYSC just built a brand new facility just over the CT border - they will certainly pick off a lot of talent in lower Fairfield County.

U14 NYSC GDA roster already includes players from Wilton and New Canaan....the battle for talent is underway.

If that is true, CFC's Fairfield County customer base now has a viable option for top level soccer.
Competition is good for the consumer.....

If they make an explicit statement like that then maybe. 11, 12, 13 year olds are not following who US is picking from what clubs. Those are the ages that matter in terms of seeing whether USSF really decides to stick with only GDA players.

Again, it is not a factor for 99.5% of players and they (mostly) know that. The issue from what I've seen with many GDA teams is they got some top players, then there's a very sharp drop off in talent after that. Yes that happens everywhere, but when everyone was ECNL it wasn't such a precipitous decline. That's what happens when all you're doing is splitting the talent pool. OW didn't get any top CT ECNL players.

They will, if anything just to send a political message. Give it another year or two. They can't do it year one because it would be too obvious.

You better get your butt out of the north east region and quick

I don't think US Soccer will only pick Girls DA players purposely right out of the gate. What I think will happen though, like it has on the boys side, is that over time the majority of the players will just naturally come from Academy clubs because they're just better players.

Right now the ECNL top players are as good, if not better, than the top GDA girls. This won't be the case in a few years.
