It's so awful this year. You can't go to the beach from the tide and stench of dying fish. There's countless failures at the state and federal level. We're killing our planet. Locally if this continues kiss tourism and our economy goodbye

Take a look at the budget and deficit stats for both parties. You might be surprised that there actually is one out there that is both despite reputation for the contrary.

          You are not alone.

I think Dem administrations at federal level have been more fiscally responsible. Recent republican administrations seem to have no issue sacrificing long term debt for short term GDP growth.

Problem with Dems is the far left of the party. It is a place of intolerance where different points of view are not embraced. Then there's the love affair with "socialism" with no real idea what it means. you ask most progressives what they mean by "socialism" and they criticize capitalism as being unfair, unjust and a flawed system and then define socialism as "not that." that's not a definition or a system.

at any rate, the issue here is not really dems vs republicans. it's sugar and cattle farmers vs. the rest of the state. the sugar barons have for years played both sides of the political fence.

Just got back from a vacation at Captiva. Boy, I feel sorry for the people living on the west coast. Dead fish, eels, and manatees. We get the blue-green algae from Lake O, but they get that PLUS the red tide. We've been going there for years and I've never seen it this bad. From talking to the fishing guides and people at the hotel it is clear that our legislature, made up primarily of republicans, have simply chosen which industries will thrive and which won't. This is all about big ag. paying off politicians.

So sad seeing even the bigger fish being dragged in by boats to be disposed. Stay out of the water on Florida west coast.

And don't eat any fish caught down south. The tide will be turning and republicans are going to be voting for democrats to save our enviroment and checks back in place to save our democracy.

Every year, red tide gets worse.

The population of Florida exploded. All of the pesticide. All of the fertilizer. All of that crap that those liberal North East people place on their lawns all ends up into the water. Florida's population was 5 million in 1960. It is way over 25 million today and that may be an underestimate of the illegals included.

                  You liberals destroyed Florida.

I guess it's easier to spew regurgitated alt-right talking points instead of actually reading the article or doing your own research.

This problem has its roots in failed or shortsighted legislation, beginning in around 2007. Please take a minute to look up which party controlled the Florida legislature between then and now, and report back what you find.

We're on the West coast. It's horrific in many areas. It started so early this year too - we have family down every April for their spring break and it was here for the first time ever in April. Not as bad as it is now but enough to really limit their time at the beach. We haven't been near the water in forever

That is what psychologists call projection. Pretty sad mental position. This isn’t liberal or conservative, it is externalities and business .

That would be Rick Scott who gutted the budgets and agencies at the state level.

Environmental gut jobs are part of the GOP platform.
