Yes. If you saw the game you know that BC had 10 times as any shots, outrun and got behind the UConn defense multiple times, and could easily have won 6-1.

Poke fun at the mighty Eagles, our local dive-bombers of death, as much as you need to feel better about yourself. But remember. They are still undisputed, undeniably, and unarguably the best team in New England!

Assuming that the ACC keeps a top 8 format for the playoffs, it is very possible that the Eagles miss out and have some trouble making the NCAA tourney as a result. It is really that simple. UNC, FSU, Duke, Virginia and Notre Dame are clearly better than BC. Wake Forest and Maryland are also better on paper than the Eagles. Miami and Virginia Tech are roughly equal and I'd expect those three teams to compete for that last playoof spot.
As tough a time as Dimartino had last year, she was still the Eagles most dangerous forward. Even still, the one area that the Eagles look set is up top, yet where did they add recruit help? You guessed it... up top! They lost the nation's best playmaker, and have no replacement. They featured a defense that couldn't handle the ACC's better offenses, and added nothing to help. They are entirely untested in net. Those are the reasons that BC will be picked 9th (maybe 10th) in the ACC next year.
Best in New England? Who cares. They are in the ACC and that is where they compete - It has been a tough year on the Heights. Awful football, below average basketball and even the hockey team got bumped from the HE and NCAA tourneys. Let's hope that 2013/14 is better for the Eagles, but unfortunately it looks like the women's soccer team will continue their slow move downward...

Hungry raptors circle methodically, hunting prey prior to the swift and merciful kill. Beware the desperate Eagle. They are deadly even wearing makeup.

Losing MA to Notre Dame hurts BC in many ways. The obvious is the loss of her talent, but additionally it shows that NT players are being persuaded to head to certain coaches.I think BC will remain the top New England college as long as there are no major shake ups in the college coaching ranks here in New England, but it is going to be very difficult for Foley to attrack top level players because of this perception that there are better coaches elsewhere.

BC is not a coaching problem. Foley knows her stuff. It is a recruiting problem. BC does not get the same depth and quality of talent as its ACC competitors. Being an extremely expensive Catholic university, in a cold weather climate, places BC at a definite disadvantage. They will have the occasional magical year with a team of over-achievers that gel at the right time, but they will not reload and compete every year like UNC, FSU, Duke or Notre Dame.

ND is the preeminent Catholic University with a credible athletic history, even in relatively meaningless womens soccer. Baiting BC wannabes is stupendously easy.

If you were going to strictly compare city to city, where would you prefer to go to school? Boston or South Bend? But that is neither here nor there in this discussion. MA didn't go to ND because of geography or The Gipper. She went there because of Randy Waldrum and the other players of her caliber he will recruit. Just like SM went to UCLA because of Jillian Ellis and HB went to Penn State initially because of Erica Walsh. These are among the big names at US Soccer that are going to attract NT level players. Foley doesn't have that cachet. That is the real recruitment issue.
