    Mass Div 3 colleges

How the local colleges looking this fall? Obviously Tufts is at the top. What about other leagues? No need to get all worked up. Just curious about other leagues and to see whom knows who is looking to be good this fall? Love this time of year!!!

    NEMAC
    MASCAC
    NECC
    GNAC

The NECC is terrible. Lost two teams last year Southern Vermont and Newbury. They loss of Newbury who always brought in good talent is tough. Recently lost Daniel Webster who always brought in good talent. I wonder what schools they'll target to try and stay in existance or if they'll disband.

I guess Mitchell always is capable of a surprise because they can get just about anyone into school there. The last couple of years they've found some really good players. NEC is in the NECC for some reason and they are always solid.

Personally, I always love the hot mess that is the state schools. Always tons of talent, always very volatile. No reason Framingham State isn't consistently good but their coach is nuts.

I have a player who is sitting out his last year for this reason. Definitely not a starter, but capable of being a contributor. Stuck it out for 3 years thinking things would progress, but they did not. Coach carries a roster of something like 26-28, and maybe uses 6-8 past his starting 11. Once he pigeon holes you into a role, there is NO changing his mind.

Plus, to see him on game days, he is completely crazy.

Framingham could be such a great program, they have a ton of talent, but there is little to no team building, and while they do have a ton of very talented individual players, they are not a great team, and that all goes to coaching, and getting them to be a team.

With a trio of local brothers, including a former ACC player transferring in, Framingham State will be a team to watch this season. Endicott should be extremely volatile offensively, with two top-notch striker transfers (one of whom was an All-American last year). Also, Amherst is poised to reclaim their spot at the top of the NESCAC (and possibly the NCAA) with four incoming DA recruits.

Heard Worcester State got a quality transfer and some other good recruits this year. They did not lose much at all to graduation. Should be decent game between FSU and WSU who are both in MASCAC.

Someone should tell Williams and Amherst about Tufts. Not sure they remember any of the other in state teams that finished lower than them in the NESCAC standings last year.

Actually, perhaps it's a message to you stating that no gives a crap about NESCAC schools.

Yeah, maybe you shouldn't be in the D3 soccer thread.

Isn't NESCAC just one step below division 1?

I just glanced at Framingham St.'s schedule. They really loaded up this year on their non-conference schedule: Tufts, MIT, Clark, Springfield & UMass Boston. That should definitely toughen them up for a conference run. Coach Cal at Endicott had last years squad rolling in the 2nd half of the season and with those additions they could be formidable. Tufts will still get in Amherst way. I saw analysis of teams on another soccer forum that shows that Tufts is getting back ~90% of their goal scoring & assist making from last year's championship team. That's just crazy.

Not really. The top 4 or 5 NESCAC teams can easily play with 75% (or more) of D1 schools to a 2-goal or less game (either way). Several NESCAC schools can beat lots of D1 teams.

So they can almost win? Is that because the D1 teams would play reserves?

They can play whomever they like to try to save face. There are just so many bad D1 teams out there and their reserves are even worse. D1 is hardly a ticket to good soccer.

In response to the poster stating D3s can beat a lot of D1s maybe in the entire country.Definitely not in this State and definitely not all D3s.At the college level the top D3 and D1 matchups would be competitive.

You're joking right? Would love to see Williams, Amherst, Tufts, or MIT play HC, UMASS, or UMASS Lowell.
