Especially if there is a Lincoln girl coming over--there's no way a student at a public school (even an upper class public school like Drinkin' Lincoln) can qualify for the DA's "private school exemption" to the no-HS rule.
Of course, if the complaint is coming from an ECNL coach, I suspect US Soccer might choose to ignore it, especially since there are no other local DA teams that the Thorns would be gaining an unfair advantage over. But don't complain that the no-HS rule is stupid, then complain that the Thorns aren't honoring it.

You could be in DA and not follow the DA rules. Try out fees. High school. Training schedules. Whatever. Do what you want.
Nobody in the market place really cares. You can where flip flops, tank top and a sombrero at the DA events. You can use three balls in games a game simultaneously. You can have two keepers. Whatever.
Nobody really cares.
Is it a coincidence that this all coincides with the legalization of marijuana? I don't know, but don't really care either.

Are they really letting girls play high school? That would be a game changer. Make the Thorns free and allow high school and you get in business.

Thorns have come full circle. They started with so many promises about how they would be different. How they were for the elite players seeking the "path to the pros" and not wanting to waste their time on high school sports. How they would move the game/practice ratio to the optimal level for development. How they would even the playing field by taking away the pay to play model in use by clubs and ECNL.
And here we are. Thorns charging fees comparable to other travel clubs. Girls allowed to opt out of fall league and play high school. Travel weekends with two games a weekend, and players allowed to practice as often or as little as they want.
So we are back to where we were before Thorns launched - some pay to play "elite" clubs, each claiming they are the definitive path to success, and a bunch of local clubs.
The only people I feel sorry for are the girls who bought in from day one. Like the proverbial frog a pot of hot water, they didn't notice that gradually, piece by piece, Thorns turned into every other club in Oregon.

They have no structure or even affiliation that resembles your local neighborhood non profit kiddo club.
It's tough to understand when you are just plain clueless.

It’s just one more option for kids that want to have fun and play soccer. No better or worse than any other option.
