USA world rankings were higher before DA existed and that is a fact. Here it is.

Furthermore, MLS teams are stacked with foreign players who are paid more which should tell you what the MLS really thinks of homegrown talent.
didn't zlatan Ibrahimovic say playing mls is the easiest soccer he has ever played? or something similar? he said its a joke.

yes because in the US soccer does not pay the players....

every elite athlete is looking at : football, basketball, baseball, and even hockey in certain parts of the country before those left over play soccer....

in the US that is where the stars are, the big money is and little kids dream to be, so that is what they play....

Look at US womens soccer... wonder why they always do so well?
There is no other organized sport other than a small group playing basketball, so all the elite womens athletes gravitate to soccer..... If the US had not american football, basketball and baseball... american athletes would dominate physically and with all the focus on those other sports, if we drilled in the same on soccer... The US would crush it...

but for now we will languish as a bunch of losers on the mens side of soccer...

Not so quick there buddy. The US has more Youth Soccer Players than any other country except for China and we still can't compete. It isn't because elite athletes are playing other sports. It is because elite soccer players in the US aren't being discovered or developed. Soccer in the US is a white suburban sport with very few inner city kids playing it. It is big business and that has taken precedence over development. In other American sports kids are discovered playing in the school yard, playing in a local park, playing in a travel team and even playing in pickup games. In soccer if you're not on a competitive travel club or you're not insta-famous it's very unlikely you will be noticed. The notion that the best soccer players are playing in the DA is hurting us because that is far from the truth.

On the women side, we are dominant because again we have BY FAR more female youth soccer players than probably all other countries combined. Secondly, women playing soccer in the US is more acceptable than it is in other countries. However, if you haven't noticed the gap is starting to narrow and some European clubs will surpass us in the future.

Oh by the way, just in case, here are the facts about the number of youth soccer players in the US.

Not the ones that are serious or good at soccer.

sorry...but the other countries we are referring to are the ones that have "soccer" or "futboll" as the national pastime and there best athletes play this.

In the US our national past time is Football, Baseball and Basketball (Not SOCCER!!!!!!!!).
This is where our best athletes gravitate to. The money and notoriety is there for football, baseball and basketball.

Hell a soccer scholarship is a freaking joke. (not to mention an average base salary for an mls player as $100k/yr)

US mens soccer simply does not have the best quality athletes to train as it is a 2nd tier activity.

Sorry your kid not doing DA but your original claim that DA is somehow an inferior league to NPL is just silly. Good luck with that view

It is simplistic and narrow minded to suggest that in 3 million youth soccer players in the US not one has any athletic genes or the genes that respond better to training than the average person.

Are you stating that all the best athletes that gravitate to Football, Baseball and Basketball get scholarships and become professionals making millions of dollars. Look at the percentages of these so called "best quality athletes" and tell me how many of them actually make it. Also, if we have all of our best athletic youth athletes playing these traditional American sports why is it that we have this many foreign born players playing in two of our top sports:
                            Baseball (MLB) 28%
                            Basketball (NBA) 19%

Not as simple as you think it is...

I'm not talking about above average players. The US has tons of above average players. Probably more than every other country on earth. But our truly top 0.0001% athletes that make it at the elite levels, choose sports other than soccer.

Why do minorities have to be singled out. Why do they matter in this argument, Mr. Liberal? Do you single them out in Iceland, Spain, or Belgium? Does it affect their stature in the sport? Kids and families play the sports that are in their lives, communities, and history. Soccer is not an every day sport for most American kids. My kids play a lot .... when we pay. In our neighborhood however, they play basketball, baseball, and football in our yard or the playground. Its just the way it is for most of america. I dont think the same in Iceland, Spain, Belgium, Brazil, Italy, England .......
