NYCSL NPL is not team based -- it is club based just like EDP's, with Eastern's older teams grandfathered in while the younger teams were dropped to Metro.

The EDP NPL does seem to be of higher quality, but it has the advantage of drawing teams from three pretty large metro areas, NYC, DC/Balto and Philly. The flip side is that teams like Manhattan have a crapload of travel to do.

Manhattan plays NYCSL NPL - at least they do on girls side. Agree playing EDP NPL would be insane for any team based in LI/NYC/Westchester. Traveling for that would be way too much.

Will EDP start to supercede NYCSL over time? Seems those shut out of NPL are putting strong teams in there.

Again depending on which NPL you're talking about some clubs can't meet the requirement of having every age group. EDP lets you have just one team so it's a great place for smaller clubs or new ones trying to build. EDP also has its own NPL grouping.

NYCSL undercut their own regional premier division (now called NYPL) when they formed an NPL division. Strong teams see that NYPL is watered down which is why they are now testing out EDP.

You are correct that the main advantage of EDP is a smaller club or individual team can join EDP which makes it very attractive

CCSL in Connecticut which is NYCSL is growing fast.

EDP NPL is a closed shop.

You can argue which is better, but for all intents and purposes, it matches up as follows.

EDP NPL = NYCSL NPL (Club based regional play)

EDP D1/D2 = NYCSL NYPL = ERL (Team based regional play)

EDP Premier/Championship = NYCSL Travel = LIJSL Travel (Team based local play)

And for team-based play, EDP D1 is generally more competitive than NYCSL NYPL at this point. Many LI/metro NY teams (not part part of NPL clubs) left NYPL to either seek better competition or to move out of Gary Grossman's league. NYPL doesn't have the critical mass it once had. I know some teams/clubs were not happy with how things were run by Gary and have decided to give EDP their business instead.

Largely agree; even 2nd level EDP is very good for the most part. After that it's a steep decline in quality. New teams can work their way up into higher brackets with EDP by winning. EDP also runs a number of good quality tournaments and showcases in the area
