yes. I am very well aware of how this all works. As a side note, there are between 1-3 FL players on every other age groups 'south' team. Every other team has a blend of players from many states. There are 12 players from FL on the 03 team. That is not, statistically, insignificant. Regardless, congrats to those girls who got the opportunity. I hope they make the most of it

The system is flawed; as an example- on the 03 'south' team, 12 out of 18 girls are from FL. The coach of the south team is a college coach of a mid-tier school in FL. Although its great for the girls from our state to get this recognition, of course the coach is trying to develop rapport and potentially recruit the FL girls to his school. No way those girls are the top 12 in the entire southeast when the club teams they play on are very mediocre to just bad. The coach knows he won't get the top talent from tophat or concorde and he knows how to work the system; ODP has run its course.

People say that ECNL and DA showcases are making ODP obsolete. But really, the internet is making ODP obsolete. With so much information out there about who coaches where and who plays where it is really easy to see when ODP makes some "dubious" selections. Couple that with the fact that all the older (recruiting age) girls follow each other on social media and talk when selections are made, it quickly becomes obvious when a political selection has been made. The girls know who can play and they are the first ones to spot when a "connected" girl is chosen over a better player.

There really is no good reason. It's insane. Those are the peak recruiting years. They should have separate teams!

It is a no brainer to keep ODP relevant with so much talent out there. It just has be smarter about making sure its mission happens and change with the times. That means things like not playing in Boca on Thanksgiving but moving it up to Friday to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so more coaches will attend. It means having more region teams from each region and making it a bigger showcase. It means -

A coach could go to the Alabama camp and see a lot more players. There are only 12 teams playing in Boca from Saturday to the Friday after Thanksgiving. Ridiculous use of time.

Boca -Region practices on Sat afternoon or night, Games on Sun, Mon, Tues and get home in time for turkey .

You only need two adjacent fields and run the two age group games at the same time.

04 two games at 10am
03 two games at noon
02 two games at 2
01/00 two games at 4

Over three days the college scouts would see them plenty.

ODP Inter-Regionals should be similar to a DA or ECNL 3 Day Showcase.

A lot of truth to that. ODP claims that the entire system is set up to identify talent to "play at the next level" but when the players finally get to the age where they are read to go "to the next level" they cut the number of teams down to nothing.

And that is where the rampant corruption creeps in.

Why do people do this? GDA is ten month club soccer. Those club players not in GDA may try out and be selected for ODP, a supplemental program for club players to play with other top players and to help players be developed and identified for the next level.
