The definition of Tournament by MYSA includes multiple games per day and some sort of playoff/championship round. As long as an event avoids these scenarios, they do not meet the definition of tournament and are thus allowed. The event can be called a tournament, but it doesn't meet the definition set by MYSA. This event would be seen more like a Jamboree.

I would think the reason tournaments are banned at the moment is to avoid mixing people from many different towns so as not to perpetuate the spread of COVID. In this respect, even though this event does not have the MYSA technical definition of a tournament, parents and players from different towns are still gathering and mixing. Doesn't this have basically the same amount of risk as a tournament? Did they check with the people who put down the no tournaments rule to see if this event might be what they had in mind? My guess is no. Hope everyone has a fun time, though.

First, club soccer practices and games have been going on in MA for over 2 months. This is “mixing” of people from different towns (and states) on a daily basis. The reasoning behind not allowing multiple games per day is so that you don’t have multiple teams and parents staying at a field complex during the day. One game per day means you arrive, play your game and then leave right away. Keeps the number of people at the field at any one time within the guidelines.

The reality is that a soccer game outdoors is WAY lower risk than going to the grocery store (still low risk), eating in a restaurant (even with limited capacity—not a good idea), or even kids being in school (wearing masks mitigates risk, but ventilation in the building makes a huge difference).

          It’s pretty simple—outdoors =good, indoors = bad.

Hope no problems or this could cause season be cancelled if cases arise. It is not following the rules lets be honest.

It is following the rules, and these rules were not handed down by god. They are collection of sound-good ideas cobbled together for everybody to collectively cover their butts.

I'm proud of the soccer community for doing everything we can to play.

^false, you have either not read mysa guidelines or do not comprehend. By mysa definition, a tournament is multiple games for one team in one day. The event that is scheduled is no different than regular season games, teams play their one game at field & leave...next team plays...etc. "It is not following the rules, lets be honest" is false

Yes. The event has been cleared by the chief of staff at the EEA. With teams only playing one game per day this is not in violation of anything they are trying to prevent.

LOL - keep fooling yourself that rules are been followed - totally disregarding the intentions behinds the rules by having hundreds of people in same location including coaches and refs doing multiple games - that is simply not allowed

Referees and coaches are on a field for multiple games in a row each weekend. How is this different?

The powers that be write down the rules so that you do have to check with them. No need to interpret reasons or intentions - If you follow the written rules, you are all set. If they want to avoid this type of event then they can write down a different set of rules.

Yes they will all be right in each other’s faces, breathing in while the other breathes out. No masks or social distance. Frequently licking each other’s hands and then wiping them on everyone else in the vicinity.
Then they will calm down, begin following the rules, and go sit in a bar with no mask, because that’s allowed.

^again, you do not educate yourself...please read & watch before you state that this event is not following ma & mysa guidance..."hundreds of people"? Hundreds of people are not allowed. 1 spectator per player, although this may be increased Monday as per Ma. Executive Branch
