Do we really care what spews from the lips of Hope Solo.....again, Hope Solo???? There is a simple way to determine if there is an issue:

    1. What is the % of the female population in the US that is black?
I believe this # is around 13%, but somebody double check me.
    2. What % of the USWNT is black?

If the % for #1 above is higher than #2, then maybe there is an issue. There is no reason that the % of the USWNT’s black players should be any higher than the overall % of black females in the general US population. I assume that the team actually has a higher % of blacks than the general pop. If so, then there is no race issue here.
Remember, you have to include mixed players like Pugh as black as well. You can’t only include/exclude people of mixed race solely to strengthen your argument.

It isn't about the NT but soccer overall. Most teams are economically and ethnically limited. Some of that is because income and ethnicity is often intertwined, some of it is the absence of a soccer culture in this country. It's not like AA boys are flocking to soccer either. They follow other sports and want to be like those superstars

Those 4 guys are probably the most intelligent players in the NFL.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chris Long, and Matt Ryan are really smart guys as well, right up there with the aforementioned guys.

Seems logical but never any formulas at that level. Must take the best to win.

Are you serious? Why don’t you take a look at the roster for the USMNT game tonight vs. Mexico. White players are the minority.

Again - this isn't about at the NT level, where (in theory) talent will always win out. Look at NTs in the world cup like England and France - not exactly all white either but their club system is also entirely different than here. It's about giving more American kids a fair shot at developing into players. For every Hispanic or African American who makes the upper echelon, or even at the college level, how many were left behind because of pay to play? It's unanswerable but there's no doubt that the high cost is contributing in part to the recent declines in youth soccer participation (down 13% in just three years).

More divided in wealth than ever. The rich get richer. Trumps tax plan favors the rich. The bigger rich travel soccer clubs have taken over and the cost to play travel soccer are too high.

What percentage of youth soccer players are black? If it is way lower than blacks in the overall population then need to evaluate why.

Part of it is cultural so it's nearly impossible to separate out culture vs economics. Kids will gravitate towards sports their friends play. Kids follow teams and stars that their friends and families follow. They want to be like stars they see that look like them, that they can envision themselves being. For African Americans that rarely will be a soccer player. The US lacks a soccer culture to begin with. It isn't just about race or economics, but rather all three factors play a role. The easiest market to tap into first is Hispanics. That's where the culture is there but family economics keep a lot of kids out.
