Pick your poison, have fun and enjoy the beautiful game. It will all work out in the end.

It is entirely local. Pick the best club/fit/coach for your kid and don't stress about the badge. that might mean GDA or ECNL depending on your location.

        Pick the right coAch

        Your league schedule means little

        Your affiliation means little

It's clear by now that Ecnl doesn't develop better than non ecnl.

FC Portland and Crossfire United mediocre teams kept afloat by recruitment is FACT enough.

It's clear by now that DA doesn't develop better than Ecnl or non Ecnl.

You just have to look a little to see this. It's all recruitment at the thorns and their development isn't any better than anyone else while some say it's worse.

If you took the same coaches from Ecnl DA OYSA or whatever and mixed them up. The successful ones now would be successful where they go. The mediocre ones or bad ones would stick out even more.

You could swap out literally most anyone with the 00/99 thorns coach and they would be better. You could swap out a good coach at CU and they would be good in OYSA. You could take a good OYSA coach and they would be good in Ecnl.

No local club (girls) has any monopoly on player talent and especially no exceptional proven coaching staff that can draw the best players.

The DA is a different animal and has US Soccer steering it.The Boys side has changed the entire landscape of youth soccer now its the girls side forging ahead with some opposition.

Oregon & SW washington have enough player talent to form 1 regionally respectable girls team at every age group but the coaching is not available to lead it at the local club level.

          It's a conundrum.

The result, our local clubs are diluted and the DA is subsidizing their platform with the intent of securing the best players.

Oregon local club kids need to play in Oregon, special club teams need to travel and be challenged in addition to playing local.

Registering for USYS or US club play is really not a gamechanger, the latter just drains the pocketbook regardless of the teams talent level.

'Elite' is a relative term that people try to opine in a subjective manner. Definitely. Players choose where they want to play. I knew a POY and ODP standot who accepted a spot at Gonzaga buut didn't get playing time until sophomore year. I've seen players offered spots for high-level D1 schools-one is even an ASB president and played on youth national team call up but she's chosen the Oregon D1 school that her parents and grandparents attended. I've seen players go D1 for the Air Force to enter as an officer and earn two degress at the same time. There are many paths to take and reasons are their choice and should not be a judgement of any assumed shortcomings.
