The counter theory could be that ECNL backfill rosters with anyone who can cough up the money. Probably a little of both for FC ECNL and the latter for CU ECNL. There are very few HS coaches that would provide the training of ECNL, GDA, or the better OYSA coaches. I'd rather have full years training in a club environment than 9 club plus 3 Iffy HS months. This gives an an advantage to GDA. Even if you believe that GDA is playing in a league that they can't compete every week, the fact remains that these girls are getting more touches on the ball throughout the year. Personal development doesn't have to coincide with successful team results. This is not to say that GDA didn't have moderate success last year. They did. Less so than CU ecnl and more so than FCP ecnl.
GDA is dead and Thornz Asylum never lived. Just the facts.

You bought a turd, stop polishing it. GDA is a joke and everyone is running from it except the guy who now has no other choice.

All GDA clubs wondering who they will be playing, and when this saga will end. Thorns are better off competing regionally again without GDA.

Families are all pushing for them to play in OYSA again so they can win.

Thanks to the National US DA starting up for girls this year, the US Club League that CU & FC P register for lost over 50+ clubs and this gave (FC P & CU) a strong case to consider coming back to OYSA, as all the opposing talent moved on to bigger things. Plus getting hammered each weekend was no longer the norm. Now they are considering coming back full time to the OYSA as parents aren't excited to travel all over the country to play teams that would struggle in the OYSA. They can't win no matter what they do, no pun intended. Bad Decisions.

The girls da has been a mess. SoCal kept their best teams in ecnl. Now more teams fleeing GDA. Portland struggled to get top talent. Sigh.

What So Cal has to do with Oregon? Please explain.

It's common knowledge that the only top shelf clubs in So. Cal were selected & accepted for DA and those select clubs gleefully accepted. The tectonic shift in 2017-18 with establishment of the Girls DA reformed all the USYS & US Club leagues. Any movement going forward, to DA or back to USYS/US Club is not even an aftershock. Just some residual ripples. See our local clubs that migrated from worst to first in US Club restructuring, with so little talent they were never candidates for the DA & the NWSL franchise Thorns was instead given the nod. Life goes on.

Thanks Captain Obvious, parents don't care in these parts.

Portland has always struggled to get top talent. And to get top talent consolidated. It's just the problem with the area, too many options and some really shady/bad coaches heading up supposedly "top clubs" or "top teams". That's why ECNL has struggled locally for so long.

The moment those clubs decide to go back to playing in state for their league is the moment they lose half the families they tricked into thinking they were elite by distant association.

They then lose the other half because like everyone already knows, they would get killed by a few OYSA teams and certainly wouldn't dominate.

It goes to show you that if you spend all your time recruiting on propaganda while underseveloping players for the sake of travel...you are left here.

SoCal has top teams in both GDA & ECNL, with the edge going to GDA. NorCal top teams almost all stayed ECNL. This helps or hurts Thorns depending on how you look at it because Thorns are in the GDA conference with NorCal’s mostly weaker teams. Most top NorCal clubs turned GDA down and stayed with ECNL from the start.

It could be worse, you could play in the Pacific Division of the US Club Northwest Conference and not play anyone competitive.
