This is total bs. Don't believe a word of it. If a coach doesn't think enough of you to offer even a minimal amount of scholarship money then you don't figure in their long term plans. You'll be a practice player, at best. If they want you bad enough they will offer money. Simple as that.

PC operates that way - my kid had those discussions with them. He went elsewhere (more because of academics) but it was a strange discussion relative to ones with other schools. Scholarhips on the men's side are a token gesture anyway. Few if any will get 50% let alone a full ride.

Nothing is promised until they see what you got.

Not BS. Same thing on my son's local D1 team. Money came in the later years

Absolutely not BS. You're crazy. Many schools do this. Umass gets a total of just about 3 scholarships. How do you expect them to be offering all their freshmen money? Don't be silly.

Someone earlier asked how many of the kids on the D1 list signed letters of intent (got athletic scholarships). Of course you don't know, but you know the Ivy kids didn't, and you can bet that some of the UMass kids didn't (since they have so few scholarships to start with). You'd guess that some of the other kids didn't either given the level of player involved vis-a-vis the fact that at best the schools have 9.9 scholarships. Not knocking the kids- anybody who can play D1 is a darn good player- but just making the point that the uninitiated shouldn't be misled by the hype.

I will agree on the Ivy portion. The rest not so much, if these schools simply give you books you need to sign a LOI. Scholarship money is limited, but thsee schools get pretty creative and if they give you $1 there has to be a contract.

There are a lot of kids who are committed but their parents don't post on TS or sign up for the websites that feed the running list, so you can't capture them all.

Had wondered about how they lured the coach, given that people say it's a tough position to have to have recruit there with limited scholarships (I had heard it was 2.5, but someone here said they had 3). Hopefully they gave him more, but I assume Title IX implications are in play so it can't be too simple. But it makes no sense for them to be the regional doormat given the MA pool available. If he got more scholarships, he should spread the word as people have tended to shy away from the program given the limited scholarship situation.

All that being said, the math can work that even a very limited scholarship there for a MA resident can still beat more fulsome money from private or out-of-state public institutions.
