Originally posted by Unregistered View PostBoys HS soccer has done nothing of the sort and neither will the girls side. There are so few kids that could play CIAC soccer that are affected and there are many, many very good players that do not play academy (that could make a team but choose not to try out). 90%+ of the HS teams in CT do not have a single kid in this boat for boys or girls. On top of that OW (not sure about BS) grants waivers to a good portion of their kids that play on a prep school team so those teams are not affected either. Top players wherever, including in DA, can do whatever they choose, whenever they choose. Even DA won't try to stop them because they are afraid some of those players would walk away. The original statement was ridiculous.
A good example, AD player of the year in DAP east conference, left Brookfield HS. The talented team still won SWC and States. Granted it was class M. Furthermore several DAP players have comeback and haven't made their HS instant winners.

Those kids are missed and are really really talented but their departures haven't dramatically driven quality downward. It takes more than the loss of a star to impact a team sport

With OW and BS you are taking about 80 top players out of the HS league....and you are arguing that the quality of play is not diminished as a result? Please.

How many schools would those 80 players go to ... 70? The talent loss (yes I said loss) is dispersed among those 70 schools. No dramatic drop off

Also, the number of prep school players on DA rosters is high so those also never affected CIAC teams. It's less than 1% of boys and not even all of the top CIAC players so, it still really doesn't affect the overall HS soccer environment. A team here and there would certainly be better with the player or two that they are missing, but overall, not a big deal.
