This merger makes a lot of sense. Sporting has been stealing potential Oakwood kids at younger ages. Oakwood probably wanted Sporting to go away and so just bought them. FYI- ZE played for Oakwood coming up and is still good friends with DF. I actually think this rumor might be true- at least truer than Sporting/GPS or Sporting/FSA.

Probably three levels for this super club- DA, NPL, State

What does Sporting get out of this? They are already taking Oakwood kids at U12 and below and the best Sporting players already go to Oakwood at DA level. System is working fine as is.

Great move by oakwood, gives them more field space which they desperately need now that they have added girls da and need to train both boys and girls 4 times per week

            Um.....sure.

Both clubs pull from Hartford county, Oakwood (especially on the girls side) needs talent to start showing up. The girls Academy launch is a complete disaster. No ECNL talent attracted in, lots of kids playing up. One team got throttled by soccer powerhouse Cedar Stars last week.

Zero chance girls from the Southern half of the state give consideration to Oakwood.

Lol keep dreaming. First this is a TS rumor. If I had a nickel for every TS rumor....Sporting LOVES to promote itself on TS. In their view even a rumor of a merger is good PR. A few months ago they were joing up with GPS to become a "powerhouse".

Second, and more importantly, if your kid isn't good enough to play DA a merger makes no difference.

They already aren't considering OW. Besides the uncertainty around GDA it's a horrible drive from most of FC in rush hour traffic. Any Sporting kid that is interested in DA can already work their way to OW. If this rumor is legit the only reason OW would do not is financial. Running two DA programs will severely strain their finances. All those lower level Sporting teams bring lots of cash

Boys don't currently train 4 days and neither will the girls

Oakwood would never train on Sporting's fields. US Soccer would never approve of them training there either. Fields have to be inspected for quality in the DA.

Does Sporting even own any fields? If they're just renting then OW can rent just as easily

^^^^ so true. Look at that other Sporting thread. It goes on for days. Sporting has a done a decent job building some good teams. But they're not nearly as great as they think they are.
