This is where we are headed. I think we will lose creativity, competitive fire and joy for the game.

Some ECNL teams play 55-60 games in a season, plus high school and ODP. Talk about burnout! and double up in track or basketball.

By HS age kids either do ECNL or ODP, usually not both. ECNL coaches allow for dual sport kids. At least the CU coaches do... Hopefully so do FCP.

is this why the DA lacks creativity or joy for the game?

Hope Solo is a bitter, mean, generally awful human. Same could be said about 90% of the national team players. Drugs, depression, sour egos. Same on the men's team, which has a bunch of sad losers.

To each their own, but it sounds like a bad place to be.

Many of the men have an IQ level of a walnut.
Hope knows how to party. So does Wambach. The fact they are miserable adults is ok because they won the world cup for the US. Small sacrifice.

              Things Change.

Fun fact between 1999 and 2015 US Women didn't win the WC as all these ladies played HS.

We got a huge head start on the rest of small women's soccer playing world and they have caught up and passed us by not having college or hs soccer in their countries.
Yes they have. And yes we need to try and stay ahead. I'm just not convinced that GDA is it's present form is the best venue to do that. Same with BDA. It's too big. It should be focused only on the nation's top talent so that they can get the most out of it and be challenged by top peer teammates and competition. 90% or even more are there simply to provide a geographically viable league, bring in money and practice cones...I mean players. Those are the ones that should be allowed to chose HS or not.

Our HS/ club and ODP / College route is the best way for us as a country to go. Our mens teams were even more competitive when this was their route to National team. This new gda/da platform narrows the funnel and closes minds of people making decisions.
I will be shocked if the US wins the next World Cup. The current team is too old and the upcoming talent is not good enough. Let’s see what the GDA produces with their HS ban.

The ban of high school is one of the reason GDA is third tier. Sad.

People were talking this same mess before the last world cup. No different. US will again be in title game. Get over it our best athletes actually play soccer on the girls side.

More accurately, the best female athletes from the rest of the world don't play soccer. When 50% of all female soccer players are from one country, you can expect that country to dominate until everybody else starts trying.

On the men's side, everybody is already trying which makes it much harder to compete. The women just have it easier and don't need to have a perfect approach to training as it's not as difficult to compete.

Why did we compete better on mens side before DA?

                          Who cares

This is just about money. ECNL or GDA, who gets to cash the check.

What is it about on the mens side?

Watch some BDA clubs - that's what will happen with GDA. Robots on the field lacking creativity - and joy.

It's taken ten years for the men's program to go backwards while the rest of the world progressed. Give it time and the same will happen with the women's side. Probably not the next round but the one after that.
