Great piece overall, not just about DA vs ECNL. Like many others she acknowledges replicating BDA isn't necessarily the best thing for girls. The dearth of female coaches is especially interesting - UCONN offered the spot to several men before finally giving it to an experience female assistant coach. She was juggling multiple balls while getting her degrees, working her way up, not easy.

More female coaches needed asap. My daughter has had lots for school sports but only one in club soccer. And she was great and a great role model. Girls need more female coaches.t

This way the big clubs would not be politically squeezing out the other clubs and only choosing it's own kids for YNT's or other events. That is the problem. The politics. If they figure out how to keep the politics to a minimum, then the product will flourish.
DA needs to fix many issues on the girls side and the first is to realize that the GDA and BDA should be different. ECNL is a better model for the large majority of high school aged players.

Issues that need to be addressed are no HS allowed, substitution rules and not working with ECNL to make a better overall product for the girls. USSDA arrogance has been hurting the overall product. A real shame.

Ecnl is no saint. Just hold your nose and choose.

The US has lost it's factory jobs. All sent overseas. They have been replaced by soccer jobs. We/the US is the new China for soccer jobs. What a joke!

Not it isn't - it largely worked but has some weaknesses. USSF had to muck up by trying to take over rather than working with what was there and trying to fix it. Worse they copied a model that has gotten the men's side nowhere in nearly ten years. I would have given them more credibility if they'd thought outside the box.

Hahaha did you see the U20's loose to Mexico in the Concacaf finals? The U17 WC fails were also picked for U20 team (surprise, surprise). Guess what? fail. one missed a wide open net another two missed their pk's. but we're getting better right? new coach, new ideas right? hahaha, no. same players, same result.

truth be told, these kids were picked from their ECNL days as were the other U17 WC fails. not saying GDA is the answer, but clearly the political picks in all the leagues needs to stop. at least when ODP was king/queen, US Soccer was consistent and successful on the national stage.

I give zero relevance to the recent Sr NT/US vs Denmark game. Denmark beat itself with it's multiple errors. US didn't cause them like they did in years past. Tennis anyone?
