    Club "Showcase" Tournaments

Why do clubs enter into these tournaments? If you're another club in the region you're just giving money to your (probably) much bigger competitor who will likely poach your players at some point in the future. Just so you can have some "preseason" friendlies that take you all over the state to put an incredible amount of stress on the players bodies (nevermind the family commitment and entire weekend for a part-time coach who is already probably not getting paid enough).

College coaches do not use these to recruit players. Just host a friendly at your home field and call it a weekend.

It's called recruiting and it's a grind but that's how it works. Actually coaches DO use these to at least see players that have reached out to them and shown interest in their program. They won't just show up hoping to find a great player out of the blue. So it is up to the kids and their coach to market themselves if they are interested in a school that is going to attend. That's how it works. Otherwise go to ID clinics that are specifically given by a school your child is interested in.

Coaches want to maximize their time so they can see multiple age groups and teams at a location, not just a friendly on a home field for one club.

OP here. I coached in college. We would send the volunteer assistant to theses local showcases. They usually don’t have a lot of top talent and it’s a needle in a haystack. It’s not efficient for anyone, especially when matches are all over.

Well that's how you roll then. Not all coaches attending are volunteer assistants(many head coaches) and if you have a decent program, you'd have kids contacting you and sending film ahead of time so you could determine if it was worth watching them. Shouldn't always be a needle in a haystack. Of course it isn't efficient - so what?

please explain the best way to get your kid noticed by a college coach, especially at the D1 level

Be a very good player, have good grades, don’t be a PIA (player/parent), be persistent in your contact with the coaches are your target schools, and go to your target schools’ ID camps. Above all be a very good player, this is normally where the disconnect begins.

This is all true. The schools' ID camp is crucial. So is being persistent with your contact.

To play D1 you really need to play at a high level of club soccer. Very rarely will coaches take the time to scout a player who plays at a lower club level.

DA does not participate in these tournaments and you only get a handful of NPL teams. If you're looking for D3 teams to notice you, they also won't spend the time at these tournaments. They will watch your footage, invite you to visit your campus, talk to your coach, maybe watch you play live. D3 coaches don't have the time to do all that scouting.
