My D is a 2021. When June 15’th comes you will know what she is about. But if you don’t get 4-5 calls (my did) don’t be disheartened and keep at it. Expand your perimeter straight away! Don’t hesitate to do this relying on a camp invite. My D actually committed to a school which never called her on June 15 and has never reached out to them until fall season ended.

    I hope this helps

Take the time now to make sure the programs she is targeting are appropriate. Make sure there are some safeties in there and contact them now before the next showcase. In case you don't get much response in June (which is when you'll get a much clearer picture) you don't want to be scrambling to find other options. Don't take a non response as an outright rejection, but know that it may be more of an uphill climb for her to prove her worth. Don't give up if it seems a really good fit or she really loves the school

Thank you. How soon before a showcase should she reach out?

We used to have our D contact coaches around 2-3 weeks prior to the event, providing she knew field locations and precise times. We wanted her to be among the early players getting slotted in for watching, not knowing if certain coaches might get pretty booked up closer to the event. Once she had been to a few events and had gotten feedback or established some kind of a relationship, keeping coaches updated with changes of schedule or field locations just became another opportunity to demonstrate maturity and interest. We felt that more communication was better than less, even if it was about simple logistical things.

What is the best strategy to get recruited for 2021s? If showcases aren’t generating reciprocal interest, is it best to just bite the bullet and attend a half dozen ID camps?

Also, for D3, is there a max roster they set limits to?

For the NCAA there is no max for any program. But then there's the reality of having too many players to make it manageable. Tempers flare when players aren't playing. For D1 and D2 then there's the obvious issue of how to divvy up however many scholarships they have. D3 obviously doesn't have that. It doesn't cost a D3 program much of anything to add a few players. Teams usually don't travel with the entire roster so travel costs don't change. Some D3 rosters can be quite large, others in the 24-28 range. But so can D1 and D2 - it's just more of those players won't be getting $. Some players are perfectly fine with just being a part of the team. Either they're getting good FA and merit $ or their families can afford it, and schools are more than happy to have them pay full boat.

Sounds like your 2021 needs to completely revamp her target schools. Do that immediately so that she can invite any local coaches to league games and to contact coaches before the next showcase. Still keep in touch with programs she's already been reaching out to as well. Sure ID events are an option but only do ones at her top schools. Know going in the odds aren't great but she still has a shot. Also know that landing a spot may be possible but getting any significant athletic monies is not.

Depends what you mean by recruited.
D1 Scholarship $? reclassify as 2022: use your college savings for a PG year
Otherwise focus on AI assuming she has it
D1 Coach support at “better” school D1 - Attach grades and test scores. They will add a few more players this spring and always welcome an AI booster
D3 this spring is final push. first week of July is when admissions pre-read happens so still time to get into their mix, but it will be a late add

Re: Reclassifying as a 2022. Does this really work? How do you go about doing this? Do you just train on your own?

                    Two schools of thought
                    1. If they don’t like you this year, they wont like you next.
Girls don’t really get bigger/better like boys

                    2. They missed you last year, and ignore you this year because they are onto 22s
So become a ‘22. Easily done if shes an 03 ‘21.

Depends. If you didn’t target correctly, re-targeting those same schools will result in #1. If you take the GAP year to target correctly and realistically, them #2.

Being at the bottom of your clubs team roster doesn’t all of a sudden make you a top of the roster player the next year by being a year older.

No, you go to prep school and spend at least $45K+ and try and find a club team to play on as well. Do. Not. Do. This. Unless your student needs another year of school to bring up their grades and scores or isn't ready from a maturity standpoint. Most athletes that do gap years, most are male, and were already getting interest. The year can, but definitely not always, get them more interest. If your daughter isn't getting any interest from her targeted schools it's unlikely to change in another year. Now is the time for a rapid redirect to programs that are a better fit.

This is right. I posted the gap year alternative, and a girl should only consider this if she was somehow “missed” (injured, club played off radar) and is now getting seen and getting actual interest but the coaches only objection is that they are done with ‘21s. If this is the case ask if being a ‘22 would change things. If so then take calls as a ‘22 on June 15 to see if it makes sense.

21s can still get recruited but are unlikely to get much if any $ at this point. That doesn't mean they couldn't get some the next year if they prove their worth. Being injured at the wrong time is unfortunate and I feel for those kids. But it doesn't sound like that's the case for the guy asking.
To spend a year's college tuition to try one more time to get recruited is nuts. Plus you have to get in to a strong prep program, not just any one.

Either keep trying for any spot with the first target list and no money, and/or expand the list quickly. More showcases are coming up and local games can be watched by local coaches. Some kids won't be wrapped up until early fall of senior year.

It appears mid to end of February was a big push for div 1 commits. Let's revisit next year to see if the same timeline happens. Just wanted to note this to remember.

Where are you seeing this? Tracking commitments is like herding cats because in the end a high % of commitments don’t come to pass.
