          Dad Coach II

Hopefully this is a case where the sequel is better than the original.

As long as the club can process your credit card, there is always an open roster spot waiting for you. If you can pay, you can play on the ECNL or ECNL R teams at FC Bucks and Delco. So, some of the current FC Bucks 06 girls might leave, but there will always be players to fill those spots, just might not be very good players. But good players or bad players, this club will mess it up no matter what!
In most circumstances you are right. There usually is a sucker who will fork over a check for their kid to fill the spot. But what happens when a team and its coach’s reputation is so poor that girls dont want to play.

Scouring EPA and NJ for entire teams to fill voids has been common practice at places like Delco. Delco has destroyed entire clubs just to keep ECNL from folding. There is no way FC Bucks will run into that situation. There are enough CRUSA and Deep Run kids to fill out rosters. More than enough quality players from within and at partnership clubs to have strong teams in every age group but the DOC and BOD are ruining FC Bucks. It shouldn’t be this way at FC Bucks, it all should be better.

                Except it isn’t better...

Let’s hope the survey results and town hall meeting put bucks on a better path. I’m not holding my breath.

So this team, which already has a dad coach and trains 1x a week, will
Now fill out its roster with rec players? Explain to me then why that other than an ecnl patch, how would this team be any different than a run of the mill rec team?

it's still an advantage for any of the kids playing on the team. they play in front of college coaches while kids in other leagues don't. You keep asking the question and the answer is that patch gives kids an advantage.

So its a rec team where we pay extra for a patch and to share air with college coaches who are at the same showcases but aren’t necessarily coming to our games are definitely not offering anyone on this team scholarships. Seems like a con job to me - especially when every other team attending ecnl showcases is actually run like an ecnl team
and not a local rec team.

Bottom line when you have a dad coach and practice one time a week you are a rec team the fact is the FC Bucks 2006 ECNL team is run exactly like a rec team - and many people are happy with that fact.

We will see how happy they are in a couple of years when running the team like a rec team results in zero college commitments!

Exactly. Big advantage. And this team is ranked 94th in the country according to a reputable rank site (youthsoccerrankings). Got soccer is not a respected site. So hardly even close to a rec team.

So whatever this team is doing, they are doing it well.

It all depends on your kids end goal - this team is a very good rec team - it is not a very good ECNL team. Some kids/parents are just happy to be on a good local team and play for their high school, others want more.

You are deluding yourself if you think that just because a team has a patch means your kid will play D1. So at the end of the day it all depends on your kids future goals, but most play ecnl because they want to play in college - this particular FC Bucks ECNL team - with a dad coach, and training one time a week with no feedback ever - is not conducive to that D1 college soccer dream. And this is not bashing just being realistic. It is what it is.

Sounds like you are taking all this a little too seriously. Is your kid having fun? If so then great. If not find a team she will be happy on. Stop over analyzing youth soccer so much.

94th in the country means this team is basically a very good rec team - most of the NE ECNL teams that we play are ranked ahead of us.

                                Lets look at some numbers:

The average D1 scholarship for women's soccer is approximately $17,000 year or $68,000 over 4 years of college.

Between U12 and U14, you will spend around $10K a year, which includes travel on ECNL soccer, between U15 and U18, you will likely spend closer to $15K a year for ECNL soccer, for a total of $90,000 over 7 years.

Even if your kid is the best of the best, playing on the best ECNL team, it seems like loser math to me - spend approximately $90,000 over 7 years for your kid to have a chance at getting approximately $68,000 in scholarship money.

Now factor in that your kid isn't the best of the best, and your kid is playing on one of the worst ECNL teams in the country, for one of the worst ECNL clubs in the country, with virtually no record of placing D1 players except for a few at St. Joes.

Do you really think your kid is going to buck the odds and come out on top and beat the averages? Do you think it is really going to happen while playing for a team coached by an unqualified dad? Do you really think it is going to happen while playing for a coach who offers ZERO feedback? Do you really think it is going to happen while training 1.5x a week, while everyone else is training 2-3 times a week?
