College players are not passionate about soccer!!!

Or else why would they sacrifice all their teen years to play 3 months out of the year....

The real soccer players are trying out in Europe, S. America or maybe in MLS. College soccer is not for real soccer players, it's just a way to get some financial help while you study and play a little soccer.

Nobody who's real talented would consider college soccer as a stepping stone to playing professionally....

Your attempts to troll are like an 8 year old child. Zero points for that one.

I'm actually serious. If you're serious about a pro career, forget college soccer. How can you get to the pro level by playing 3 months out of the year at most ?

Now you explain how that can possibly be trolling....

Why I don't agree that players aren't passionate about college soccer, college soccer is not organized in a way to further development and improve players to continue to take the next step. A 3-monthcseason is not good at all. First off, it is too intense with up to 5 games in a 15 day period. But, we all know the pyramid gets thinner at the top and chances to be going pro is slim, and lack of other alternatives (read US soccer leauge systems hierarchy), getting an education and play (if D1 or some D2 programs) at high level, is a great back up plan. Even in Europe you see the alternatives getting fewer as players can't sustain (time or money) playing for peanuts in divisions below "premiership" levels and work a regular job on the side, in pursuit of going full-time pro. Many give up and start playing at lower levels "for fun" in their low 20s (same age you'd graduate college)....

Because you're not serious. Unless you simply don't know that there are several players who went to college and are now getting paid to play soccer.

Because your "professional" soccer player will be working for our college-educated players a few short years down the road. The below poverty level is just not worth it. Don't think that because someone chooses that route they are less passionate, they just might be thinking a little further down the road.

Not many go pro because education matters in this court and it costs a fortune. A pro potential player will have many very fine offers that he can't get later.

Also sorry but we don't produce many pro level players. DA is doing a bang up job there. Fially MLS quality isnt the same. The truly serious players go to Europe

I would agree that college soccer is not the best path to professional soccer. Especially if you want something higher than MLS. However, I don't think you can make the assumption that they are not passionate as college soccer is the only thing available to most Americans. It is difficult to get overseas.

The truth is that while soccer has expanded greatly in this country, the opportunities for male players has probably gone down. Title 9 caused a lot of colleges to do away with men's soccer. And now what few college spots there are taken up by foreign students.

Title Nine did not cause colleges to do away with men's soccer. Some colleges decided to apply their scholarships to other sports.

All the SEC schools give out so many football scholarships that they don't have men's soccer because it would be that many more girls scholarships that they would have to come up with. If there was not title 9 there is a good chance these schools would have mens soccer.

Add to that not many college coaches are talent developers. Their job is to win games to keep their jobs. A player that is serious about a professional career would be better served leaving the country - which isn't easy with work visas etc in certain countries.

Yes - do we keep football and basketball, which are really popular (and make money for many programs), or keep soccer? Easy choice for many schools.

So your argument is that University of South Carolina for example can afford scholarships for men's football, women's sports and men's sports including soccer. But because of T-IX Bama, UF, Auburn, etc. can't afford 9.9 more scholarships for men's soccer?

The University of Indiana can afford to, but LSU can't? Stetson, Campbell and the University of Memphis can afford to, but the University of Tennessee can't?
