It's pathetic how little some parents know about anything outside of their circle of knowledge and small travel soccer world.

So by their standards, a kid who shows real talent and passion for the sport should just forget about it all and go to college right ? Give up on the dream correct ?

If everybody thought that way then there would be no professional athletes in any sport.

The University of Indiana can afford to, but LSU can't? Stetson, Campbell and the University of Memphis can afford to, but the University of Tennessee can't?
The issue is that if they want to give out 9 scholarships to the men then they have to give out 9 more scholarships to the girls so it is really an investment of 18 scholarships since title 9 requires that you give out an even amount. Some of these schools give out so many football scholarships that it is an effort to get the girls covered. You might have 50 football scholarships so that means you might need 4 different girls sports to cover the spots. This is why it is much easier for a girl to get a soccer scholarship verses a boy.

So a lot of the schools that offer men's soccer don't have a football team. But yes there are some schools that have both football and men's soccer. I am not sure if they offer less football scholarships or if they just add another women's sport to compensate.

It's really very simple. If you're serious about being a professional player, you cannot go to college and think that's some kind of stepping stone to the next level. In fact, once you decide to do that you can kiss your soccer career goodbye.

Kids who go to college to play soccer only go there to study as the main motivation and play little soccer on the side 3 months out of the year. End of story...

If you are good enough to play in the EPL then go for it. But the remaining 99.99% are better served with a college education.

There's more quality youth teams and great leagues than EPL. Spain, Italy etc pay very well even for a 1st year contract.

A youth player in Spain gets over 100k pr year on his 1st contract on the 1st team. And he can still go to college if he wants to over there. No need to give up on your dream.
