Showcases are great to see lots of talent, but for CT D1 and D2 schools, they are at a distinct disadvantage now on the national recruiting scene as the schools and/or soccer simply don't stack up to other options outside of our region. It's no big deal for coaches and assistants right now to drive an hour or two locally to see prospects play in big games and see how they do. They can see if other schools are equally good or really bad and they can determine how good a prospect might fit into their program. The more they see and speak to these kids, in person, the more they should feel comfortable with their choices as coaches. Very few college coaches in the northeast have much to do right now, unless they are recruiting hard.

Based solely on college coaches speeches at clinics, it seems for the most part they don't bother with any High School games as it's hard to figure out the level of competition for a basis of comparison. Same with ODP. With the politics of 28 person rosters there are no real tryouts for ODP or HS and with turnover each year the quality and coaching can be different. So St Joe's vs Glastonbury in 2014 might be totally different than 2016 or 2018. That's just an example, I don't know either team or year. But over the years they figured out the quality of clubs and leagues and how much a club coach inflates the recommendations. That tends to be consistent. There are some coaches who need some positions for some years and may go deeper into scouting and go to some of these events. I hope your kids have a great game when they do!
