By the way, doesn't mean GDA might not have a role in this state . . . just this a far cry from the promises of a year ago.
GDA is dead and just walking around to save funeral expenses. Smart money is steering clear of Thornz Asylum.

You’re being snarky but you raise a good point. More expensive than an OYSA team although if it’s a good OYSA team like Salem’s 01’s they will spend that much traveling. But with Salem you know your kid will play and she won’t have to give up everything else she cares about to be on the team. Really the only appeal to Thorns was the practically free cost. Well, no more. So I guess this is the beginning of the end.

It is $1000 more than last year.

The season is 2x as long as OYSA season and includes travel.

The longer season and travel is a plus for some and minus for others.

The OYSA clubs charging $1500 per player are making way more than the Thorn's Academy for sure in terms of cost vs. revenue per player!

GDA was never going to end pay-to-play. They may have used this excuse to differentiate with ECNL, but that was never going to happen. The Reign up north is full price.

Travel and length of season is a product of the league Thorns decided to play in - suddenly ECNL is the less travel league among the national league, totally turns on its head arguments on this forum from a few years ago. All these so called elite options (GDA and ECNL) kind of lose their luster.

Cry me a river on Timbers profit per player - they rake it in in terms of leagues, cups, and camps. The Thorns Academy has always been a PR play as well.

GDA and Thorns supporters absolutely positioned this as something to transcend pay-to-play . . . hard to sympathize when you rollout and sell an unsustainable financial model in year 1 and then totally shift in year 2 (looks like bait and switch).

Unlike the (2) local travel clubs where parents spend upwards of 10K a year and end up with the same result (college) if they played OYSA league/cup and tourneys. Incredible con that sucks up parents cash flow without a moral compass. Love it!

So thorns is moving to Eastside. Raising prices pretty dramatically and still the high school ban?

$3k per year, but heavily subsidized (travel being included in the fee). Peregrine is contributing a lot of money to run the program.

As pointed out above--if you do an OYSA travel team (let alone ECNL), it will cost you at least that when you throw in kit and travel costs, assuming one travel tournament involving a plane flight. And ECNL might even be worse. A non-travel team will be less, of course.

TA also is a major time investment, far moreso than either ECNL or any local club. If your DD loves soccer, and has that as her first, second, and third priorities, it might be worth it. But it's a whole other level of commitment above even premier club soccer.

Well, it’s finally come full circle.

You may want to do your own research... Eastside has nothing to do with the Thorns DA Program.

They know that. But the ECNL trolls are trying to fool people into thinking that "Eastside Thorns" are the "Thorns Academy".

Expect a half-dozen comments repeating this lie after this one, to make sure this is no longer on the top page.

Everyone was totally fooled when the Alliance clubs changed their name to Timbers. They all thought their 11 and 12 year olds were now professional players on the Timbers first team!

If you are clever enough to find this cesspool of a website, you are more than clever enough to Google both “Thorns Academy” and “Eastside Thorns FC” without someone drawing you a treasure map to find them.

Pretty obvious that Eastside is simply changing their current girls program to the Thorns moniker instead of having their own girls teams called Timbers.

They are not connected in any way to the Thorns DA. But, they likely agreed to the name change so the Thorns DA teams can use the new Eastside soccer complex from time to time.

With that said, the timing is confusing as typical. Soccer clowns are not business savy.

GDA Thorns and Eastside Thorns timing is odd - expect better from pr pros at peregrine.

If ecnl trolls wanted to disparage gda they would point out westside is running the program - enough said for many families.

Creating confusion about thorns da, eastside and westside is just good old fashion fun!

The best part is that you can give up high school.
