    Timbers/OYSA Contract

Notes from Saturday's town hall with OYSA. A copy of the contract was not provided, but OYSA was able to confirm the following from public information:

    Approval
The contract was never approved by the OYSA Board or OYSA members. Many board members had not seen the contract until recently.
    No-bid/no RFP process.
The contract was signed by John Madding and Mike Smith.

    OYSA President's Observations
OYSA’s president believes OYSA had no leverage with the Timbers.
OYSA’s president characterized Timbers’ as threatening during negotiations: the Timbers would create their own league if OYSA did not sign the contract.

    Copy of Contract
OYSA will not share the contract with clubs, citing the non-disclosure provisions in the agreement.

    Terms
    The contract is 10-yrs.
Exclusive for state cup, state cup qualifying leagues, ODP.
Has no meaningful service level standards.
Timbers pay nothing for branding associated with state cup and the leagues; however they do cover some expenses related to OYSA staff attending regionals.

    Profitability
Profits from leagues, ODP and state cup are retained by the Timbers.

    Summary
OYSA president characterizes the contract as a bad one that he would not have signed.

And it's only got worse since that contract was signed.

"Profits are retained by the Timbers." Now tell me we aren't all subsidizing GDA with our fees.

All OPD/RTC, League & cup fees go directly to Peregrine, currently.

If they make any net profit off these services you would have to ask Peregrine directly, OYSA doesn't have that info, OYSA could not say that the Timbers get 'profits' from these activities as they could actually be running at a loss within their internal budget. It's all fungible revenue in the Peregrine ledger until you have the expense side of these line items the best you can do is guess they did or didn't make a profit.

You aren't subsidizing any of Peregrine's expenses, (like their DA programs as an example) Peregrine is.

But if that's all you got to throw at them, that's sad, desperate and not very intelligent.

          A couple of updates:

Next Fall checks will be made to OYSA. Some hope this will give greater visibility into revenue v. costs of running the league.
Timbers now subcontract a number of league functions back to OYSA.

I see. Peregrine gets OYSA profits. Peregrine also gets profits from other sources. All profits go into a large pot. Some of those profits are used to subsidize GDA. But don't dare say that GDA is subsidized by OYSA profits.

            Your shell game is ridiculous.

              1. Peregrine gets none of OYSA 'profits' they actually pay expenses for OYSA on many fronts per the 'contract'.

              2. Peregrine gets REVENUE from hundreds of other sources in it's business model, are any profitable? We don't know until they open their books.

              3. With so many millions of dollars in expenses for the Peregrine beast, you want to drag in your little personal issue with US Soccer Awarding them a boys & girls DA program, that Peregrine funds. Then you magically connect all the financial dots from your uninformed armchair and tahda everything you believe is confirmed (in your mind of course) & it fuels your unrest, congrats you did it! you cracked the code!!

Sadly, It's all in your imagination and posted on anonymous forum..

This is all very disturbing. OYSA needs to act like a non profit.

OYSA has no profitability, being a non-profit doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't make a profit it just means you run a bad business with no profit. BTW non-profits don't pay income or property taxes, they merely have a mission, and OYSA's mission is to make player cards currently. Which is laughable and disturbing.

I sure hope Peregrine keeps it's profits, that's the whole point of running a business.

If your kid doesn't make their boys or girls DA program you will not be asked to pay/subsidize it. Hope that helps you in your angst.

This will give visibility to revenue. The money will then be sent straight to the Timbers. Costs and profitability will still be unknown.

Running leagues is a profitable venture. Especially when league costs have increased while costs to run leagues, state cup, odp have stayed the same.

They also exist to be a non profit proxy for the Timbers.
