    Ecnl+hs

Great article on US GDA and overuse injuries.

So many families arguing for ECNL so their dds can play High School soccer but little conversation about overuse injuries for those players. How much is too much?

I think Ecnl in Oregon in near a scam.

The DA and thorns start up In Oregon claiming they are the best etc is some propaganda bS.

However, high school soccer is near the worst risk of injury a serious soccer player can go through.

Extreme lack of understanding of injury prevention from coaches and a terrible schedule that includes 3 90 min games a week spread out throughout the week with practices in between.

"So, if you have a kid who is all about soccer and only soccer, the US Soccer Development Academy for Girls may be something to consider. Because playing club, high school and ODP in the same season — just to keep their options open — is wearing kids out and leaving them ripe for overuse injuries. We can’t expect them, and they shouldn’t expect themselves, to do everything and embrace every opportunity. Perhaps requiring them to say no to high school ball is just the permission they need not to feel the pressure to say yes to what may not be good for them."

GDA if you are obsessive about soccer. Lots of overtraining and risky for injuries.

Actually article pointed to the opposite.

If you want to be the best and give up your free time and life GDA is something to look at. Four minimum trainings per week required by US soccer is not for everyone.

In many areas ECNL is more or less shut down during the HS season. Some states have rules about simultaneous HS+ club participation that make it difficult to operate in. Clubs also know players are physically tapped out with HS requirements. In those cases players are not doing HS+ECNL at the same time.

I can't speak to what "many states" are doing. In Oregon my DD's ECNL club tells the girls they are free to do high school. If they choose not to do high school they are welcome to train as often as they like with one of the younger teams. If they aren't sure if their individual high school experience will be a good fit, the club coaches are available to discuss options with them. In other words it's all about individual choice. Some girls hate HS soccer and have a terrible experience. Some have fun but it's not a quality experience. Others have a pretty good experience and while it may not make their soccer skills any stronger, it builds leadership skills and enriches their life in other ways. The important part is the player and her family are allowed to make their individual decision - as opposed to following a mandated rule.

If the are playing ECNL and doing HS soccer, what two months do they have off as a break from soccer? Or are they playing all 12 months straight?

summer tends to be light, depending on the program

No one plays 12 months. DA has the longest run from late August through end of June (playoffs). Other leagues are generally done early June as is school.

in the examples I think the OP is talking about, out East ECNL doesn't really operate while HS soccer is in season (fall). As soon as HS is over ECNL starts. There may be some games here or there but clubs try to push off as many as they can until after HS is done, which is easy when all the other clubs in the area have the same issue. A few states don't allow HS_+club at the same time or restrict it (HS has to always come first).

So in Oregon there are no ECNL practices during the HS season?
How long is the break between ECNL and HS?

CU and FC P train every weekend during the HS season, is that something you would categorize as an 'ECNL' practice, we just call it club practice during the HS season, the HS coaches love our club coaches looking out for our best interests.
