I highly distrust the cost numbers being thrown around but not put into writing.
How many current ECNL 02s played for their highschools last fall?

All all current Thornz Academy players get to go back to their Alliance clubs and ride the pine.

        All. About 75% on varsity.

But, we received and email along with the rest of the ODP & RTC families with the announcement and a document laying out the details. It was very clear on the $2,000 cost. They don't seem to be the quickest at updating their website so it will probably happen this coming week.

So you are a current Thorns academy parent posting about how some ECNL teams will be taking spots on Thorns academy. I guess you must be one of the 20 or so dads who thinks his daughter is top 3 on the current team. Good luck to you and yours.

              Parent travel could be $8000

                Cost of Academy Program
"Across the world, typically the best players pay the least money. In the United States, traditionally youth soccer has been a pay to play model, costing the elite players thousands of dollars a year. Portland Thorns FC are making a massive investment in our youth system. In order to best serve and develop the best players in their territory, the cost of the program will be minimal. The organization is trying to invert the pyramid, move away from the pay-to-play model and thus attract the best players, without regard to a family’s ability to pay.
For the 10-month season with all the air travel, accommodation, van rental and practice that the Academy year will entail, players and their families will only be asked to provide an annual payment of $2000 to cover coaching, facility and field costs, as well as travel and accommodation. The Portland Thorns FC will book and pay for all air travel, ground transportation and hotel needs throughout the year. Care has been taken to ensure that all players do not get any other special treatment that would make them ineligible for NCAA programs."

Attach the document or it doesn't exist. Anybody can write the jibberish you posted above.

The truth hurts its not a viable system long term why because pay for play never works on a national scale. Talent never pays to play !

I posted this fact over a year ago, back then (I was told $1500) I loved reading the shock and anguish responses from the posters who were scared of the NWSL Thorns foray into the new US Soccer GDA and it being so well funded.

A natural response should elicit feelings of appreciation and gratitude for this bold investment in girls soccer.

Why are these parents so upset over something so positive for kids?

                        Bizarre.

Clearly some of the people who are upset are the country club type who have been able to buy their daughter's spot on their ECNL teams. Some are also likely representatives of those clubs who are realizing their house is going to crumble around them in the next year or two. This is a great opportunity for the girls because it lessens the financial burden, but there are people who benefit from the excessive cost of the ECNL model.

Because this erases the advantage for parents who's checkbook is bigger than their DD's talent

Maybe because everything the Timbers have touched in youth soccer has turned into a huge steaming pile of feces?

And gives the advantage to whom? The lemming caveman parents whose DD's only know how to play thugball bootball?
