Why can’t they charge a fee? U.S. Soccer shouldn’t get any say.

Why can't any of our local clubs step up like the MLS & NSWL academies have and move away from the insane 'pay to play' model?

Therein lies the root cause of the mediocrity, apathy and entitlement that in the hallmark of our landscape.

        Total $58,000.00 paid by parents.

        Travel 16 players x 6 trips x $500 per trip = $48,000.

The extra $10,000 is probably for coaches pay?
The “extra $10,000” has to cover coaches travel too.

So Timbers and Thorns Academies are FREE? Who knew? Last I looked they were just as expensive as any other clubs - and lower quality.

Send an email to US soccer with your opinion. It’s in a huge turmoil right now after the men got failed to even quality for the World Cup so maybe they will be open to suggestions.

Your kid has to be selected for the Senior Youth Timbers Academy team and ours was and we threw out a nominal $500 deposit for this all expenses paid for experience. We didn't realize it was free until they(Timbers) bought round trip airline tix, hotel rooms and meals on the first road trip. Not to mention we never payed a dime for all the kits and equipment. Like you we didn't know it was FREE until he made it. Lower information types without talented kids required for selection have no knowledge it's all paid for, their kid would never be selected or considered. The local club scene is a disaster with coaches trying to double dip for privates with a futsal ball and Iphone videos. We have friends whose teams are sent to private facilities that are staffed and owned by the club they play for and they have to pay admission . It's truly a wrecked business model that has lost all ethics and a conscience. Pay to Play makes suburban soft a reality and you get to write the checks for this charade.

So are you saying you are personally responsible for this epic failure? Pay to Play?

So parents kick in about $58,000 per team? That seems reasonable. It's cheaper than ECNL. Not as good of quality but still cheaper.

Stop asking that question. It has been asked 100 times before. If you have a problem get on the phone with US Soccer and see if anyone there cares.

                        You seem to care.

I may not say it all the time but I do care.

Thank you I needed that - sometimes the world is rough.

Has anyone asked USSoccer about the prohibition on try out fees? Maybe thorns don’t even know about the rule has anyone asked them? You never know until you ask and speculation isn’t helpful is it now?

Has anyone asked US Soccer why no oregon clubs ever get invited to the DA boys or girls?

Ask this question and the truth will set you free.

(Little local DA leagues are nothing more than labeled local clubs scrimmages with videos)
