At least for their top U12-U14 Girls teams

If they are serious about developing their top players this is a good move. In terms of how it affects Oregon teams hopefully this means they won’t do Oregon state cup. Seems like they shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.

Considering the top 8 teams in Washington are better than the top 2 teams in Oregon easily says a lot about the competition.

It is interesting thought after looking at the results, why are they going to Washington when it's pretty clear they aren't top in Oregon.

It's like the crappy Ecnl teams from fc Portland flying to play some crappy team from somewhere else when they are both sub level to begin with...

They better make sure they get to play Oregon state cup because otherwise they won't win washington state cup at any of those ages..

Because 12 year old soccer is all about a state cup trophy. Good for them to seek out new challenges.

You've clearly never coached 12 year olds...

I was told they will still be able to do State cup.

As far as their teams doing this next year, their 05's shouldn't do it, but their 06's were pretty dominant in spring league and all year the 07's have been pretty dominant. I think its probably wise for them to start moving the top teams at the younger age groups. If they wait till high school age its already too late.

The rest of their teams will still be oregon though, or at least thats what I was told.

I've coached every age between 10 and 30. It's not the kids that are the problem, it's the parents and their short-sightedness.

You can enter any state cup you want.

WashT used to have all their premier teams in the RCL (or PDL before that) but moved to the OPL due to travel concerns. Now they are seeing that OYSA is very low level and they need to move back to RCL for better competition.

Or the coach who doesn't understand that kids could give a crap about development at 11 years old. They care about experience.

Driving to Spokane for a league game and never having a chance to win a state cup may seem like development to a coach who doesn't know any better but how do you think Oregon clubs have managed to claim they are good when in all reality when they leave the state they get steamrolled.

I find it interesting how this is being represented on this forum. Right now it will affect a whole 3 teams out of all their teams. Everyone else will still be in oregon.

Exactly right. Kids at 11 years old are much more interested in the overall experience. Winning state cup is a huge experience for most kids that they will remember for a long time. It might even make them more interested in soccer and work harder to get better.

Short sighted people that think kids should focus on development vs winning, think they are doing the kids a service, but it reality are missing the boat.

A really good coach put their kids in the right places to have enough success to enjoy it, but also be pushed. They help with development while helping the child not get burned out and still enjoy the game.

If your team is in the 2nd division in OYSA but they are going 6-3-3 good for them, thats a good spot for them. The majority of the teams in OYSA shoudl have a division that fits them. What this address is for example is the 06 Red 1's who seem to be playing very well right now, and had a handful of blowouts in spring. If moving to RCL means they now are in a division that they are pushed year round, then its a good fit for them.

Seems like a lot of driving for young girls, did WAT buy some vans to transport all these kids playing in the Washington league? If they had Eugene and Bend were in their brackets last year they were doing it anyways I suppose.
