Or give other teams an opportunity to compete, and possibly expose other teams that sit unchallenged.

Ecnl officially sold out when they allowed second teams in. This is just taking a few more kicks at the horse laying down.

Who cares. All the leagues are watered down including ECNL. That badge means way less than it used to.

As of right now everyone sits where they belong. Name a club who needs to move out of their environment because they are not being challenged? This means some weak club will jump ship and make more weak players travel with the hopes of the club gaining more revenue. The madness continues!!!

ECNL regional league is basically just a re-naming of NPL. (In the NE division it’s literally the same clubs playing the same schedule as they did when they were called NE NPL last year). I believe that the only difference is that the winner of ECNLR regions get to play in the lowest level of the ECNL playoffs. That’s it.

You people really need to calm down about this.

Yes except now all revenue goes to ECNL instead of NPL. Good at ya mate.

Not sure how that affects the kids at all. Every league is pay to play. Ecnl, GDA, NPL, NEP....

The lower income kids are out all together and what is left is a small pond. Youth soccer serves the well off. That is how it affects the kids and will continue too as long as the market keeps rewarding teh small pond leagues.

If there is not true promotion and relegation in a league, it’s a farce. Open it up to all, and see what happens. Unless you are scared of being exposed, what’s the problem? The madness is that there’s no equal opportunity for teams to prove themselves.

Well then, so be it. Money is going to go somewhere, so why does it matter whether ecnl or npl? Some people seem sour that their npl isn’t what it used to be. It’s now considered the lower end of soccer. It’s not the end of the world if your little phenom doesn’t play in the top league. It really doesn’t. She will be okay. Maybe you won’t.

There is no top league. What little phenoms are playing in what top league? Spare us.

you really sound bitter. Seriously, no club was harmed in the renaming of Northeast NPL, but some players (and their parents) may feel better about ECNL relationship and pathway to ECNL finals. Not promo-rela but it is a performance-based incentive. Yes, you can argue that NE is still a walled garden for ECNL clubs, but then you should welcome the move in the heartland to bring in 6 new clubs. This creates a new entry point for 100s of players in each of those areas. Increasing access is good for discovering lil Phenoms from underrepresented areas
