Only 1 is going to play. So keep that in mind when checking rosters.

Not so fast. Plenty programs in NE rotating their 5’3 GK’s with fingers crossed throughout season.

3 is fairly standard. Goalies get injured an awful lot and concussions and shoulder/hip issues take longer to heal.

3 is pretty common but plenty have 4. I've even seen some with 5. Stay away from that obviously.
There is rarely any PT for the 2nd and 3rd stringers. It isn't club anymore. Look for programs where their GKS are older because they're graduating out soon

Many have 4. 3rd & 4 are generally practice only. You can not have only 2 taking all the practice shots vs small sided games. Plus any good gk wants others to share in work outs to preserve their bodies for games.
Game goalies are different. Back lines work differently with different gks depending on the gk's style.
That is why come league play most programs go to one like the finals in college cup (rotated in non league).

They only go GK by committee when none of them can separate themselves from the others. Usually means the position is a weak spot on the field.

A roster of 30 is a bit big, but 3-4 would be common. 1 snior starter, 2 upper classman that will fight for the injury spot and then a your hopeful!

Aim for ones with 3, 4 only if in a pinch and maybe two are upperclassmen.

The hard part about GK recruiting is you have to find programs that are looking to fill a spot for your grade AND are interested in you. They'll be looking at 10 GK or more for just one spot. Field players are fighting for 4-8 spots or so. You have to cast a very wide net for GK recruiting.

Playing time is not dictated by class. Sometimes upperclassmen are #3-4 GK on the rotation roster.

I think the post was a joke; not many, if any programs are playing or even "rotating" 5'3" GK's except in U13 youth.

it sort of is....if recruited correctly, the older, more experienced goalie is playing while. If you have freshman as a starting goalie that means you graduated a senior, someone left or you recruited incorrectly.

It's not a cookie cutter thing. And anyone that coaches that way isn't doing it correctly; unless you are talking high school.

College is to win not to appease the locals in club soccer. Talent is found where it is found. I have seen freshmen/sophs better than upper classmen based on his/her playing experience, training and mindset. I've also seen coaches that have no idea what a modern GK does.

That's why GK HC's are catching fire. They understand the entire field/positions not just the attackers.

Sadly these are True words in most local programs.
