Yes, I see him all the time. He coaches the younger boys I think. He’s fairly new to the staff so I’m sure his role will be expanded in time.

In 2014, Gonzalo coached Madagascar's youth teams. He also won the 2014 Champion Clubs' Cup Indian Ocean with CNaPS Sports club from Madagascar. In 2016, Gonzalo coached the Bangladesh national football team. Former Bangladeshi player and Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin said he was impressed with his long career in FC Barcelona since the age of eight.[4] Gonzalo was taught by former Dutch legend Johan Cruyff and played with stars like Luis Figo and Pep Guardiola. Gonzalo also coached the Bangladesh's under-23 team with Satyajit Das Rupu.[5]. He achieved a bronze medal for Bangladesh at the 2016 South Asian Games. Gonzalo holds the UEFA A-license and is currently coaching for FC Barcelona Academy PRO, New York, USA.
Barca B and on the bench for one early Champions League game. Wikipedia edits as recently as this December. Not taking anything away, but he did not play first team with Pep and Figo.

However, seems like a much better pedigree than the English rejects (always "he was in the Buxton Academy but an injury forced him to seek a career in coaching") most area clubs get.

Gonzalo was born in Barcelona in 1972. He played as a Right-back for FC Barcelona for 17 years for all categories. He was part of the first team FC Barcelona under Johan Cruyff during 1994 UEFA Champions League Final. From 1995-1996 he signed for UD Almería.[3] He then rejoined FC Barcelona in 1997. He retired a year later due to a knee injury.

Everyone should rub their junk on him cause that’s the closest they’ll ever get to the first team.

What a poor attempt to distract from the fact that Barca has phenomenal coaches training their kids. This isn't about little Johnny "going Pro". This is about the kids receiving better training from better coaches in a better environment to develop, This is about calling the SUSA liars out on there BS posts in a failed attempt to discredit the Barca program by claiming that "its not really Barca" or " they're just community coaches from Spain". This is about responding to the guy who said " the coaches are only here because they weren't good enough to go pro". This is about attesting the the impressive resumes of the Barca coaches, who a few people claim are no better than the local dad turned coach or British rejects that infest the local soccer landscape.
Tell me, what other club in the NY/NJ area can say that there kids are being trained by UEFA Pro, or UEFA A licensed coaches, some of which are former professional players, in every age group from 2011 up? How many coaches from your club have been called up to coach a professional team playing in a top league ( Coach Marc Velasco just left Barca NY to coach J! team Sagan Tosu). The time for Barca v SUSA comparisons is over, it's not even a fair fight any more.

valencia has top coaches as well (more qualified than susa by a large margin)....the only issue is that barca hit the li market first and snatched a lot of top players first.

Agreed! This guy's coaching history is IMO even more impressive than his playing history.

                      Actually, Valencia was here first.

ok again don't believe everything on wikipedia.

here's the 1994 CL final where Milan crushed Barca (note, no Gonzalo):

here's the 93/94 Barca squad (note, no Gonzalo):

BUT, here's the lineup for a CL group stage game in the 94/95 season:
                        https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spie...ericht/1019746
YES! Gonzalo on the bench! But, this season Barca was knocked out in the quarters by PSG.

Look, like I said before, it's really impressive to go thru La Masia and play on a B team with a young Pep. And even to be on the bench during a Champions League game! These are all things that are so far out of reach of most people it clearly shows 0.01% talent.

However, I have issues with ANYBODY shading their resumes to imply things that aren't true, mislead or excessive puffery.

Just take a look at some of the Wikipedia revisions here:

Doesn't matter who was here first. Its impossible to compete with the Barca brand. Sight unseen, ask any kid who they want to play for and they are going to say Barca.

The fact that Barca launched so poorly with marketing but still got a boatload of kids in their first tryouts is proof of this. Kudos to them BUT long term it's going to be hard maintaining several teams per age group. The old adage of play on the best team where you get playing time might come to bite them. Barca has big rosters with 4 teams deep in some age groups.

If even 50% is true/or not....its still pretty cool to have this guy on the coaching staff.

and Allie Long for the girls technical director? If you have a girl that is a 1/10,000 kid, Allie Long can call Jill Ellis on her cell phone and say "you gotta see this kid"

Impressive coaching staff all around (and i think there is no disputing the credentials of Allie Long for the girls).

Girls want to use soccer to access college that need to be on teams going to showcases where they can invite a coach and the coach will show up. System rots but it is what it is. Nothing Allie long can do about it.
