Every club holds up any Oregon player who makes even low level D1. The delusion is great in our mediocre state. Yes, once in a blue moon an Oregon girl makes it to the big time but the rest of the girls are fed a steady dose of Kool aid to open their parents wallets.

The only Kool-Aid being drank is the Hater-Aid your bitter ***** is drinking because you daughters (or make that your) dreams fell short. This isn't a zero-sum game.

"The same clubs across the country have been feeding the same top d1 colleges for nearly 20 years.

Whatever league these actually elite clubs played in was really no factor. The same states Calf, texas, florida and that ilk get to play locally and join whatever league they want and travel costs aren't much as they have many top teams within driving distance. Whether they played in the 'Y' league, US Club league or USYS league. The same clubs feed top colleges year after year after year.

Reality is Oregon has never had any club in any league feed top women's college programs across the country, no matter what league they play in, when Oregon use to consolidate talent and they would demonstrate team success at a regional level those now ancient teams would have a couple of players land a top d1 schools. That doesn't happen in oregon anymore nobody is playing for anything other than the hope of a scholarship to any college that will take them, and somehow they try to convince themselves it's better to be fodder in a 'national' league structure. To them it's better to pay insane dollars to travel and say 'they are with the band' knowing they will never be a member of the band.

For each her own, I guess."

Congratulations to the CU girl that broke the mold and made the u18 NT! It will be so nice to have an Oregon girl playing for UNC, UCLA, ND, or Stanford or whatever elite soccer school she's going to. Nice to finally have a hometown star to cheer for.

Maybe she'll help UO improve. She could always decide to go somewhere better too.

                Somewhere better? Like Western Washington?

Number 1 team in the nation in Div. II. Would beat Oregon 2-0.

They are a good team but pretty sure they played Oregon in spring & lost.

Didn't get to watch the game though so not sure how they held up in terms of competing.

That D2 league has some great NW teams, 4 of them are regionally/nationally ranked (WW, Central Wash, Seattle Pacific & Concordia).

It would be fun to have a NW tournament between those 4 teams & the Oregon D1 teams.

I don't think the Oregon D1 teams would like the outcome. Kat and Linus don't need losses to D2 teams to help their cause.

Can't she do better than WW & UofO if she's not the u18 USWNT roster? Shouldn't she be able to go to a top D1 school?

I'm sure she could. Not sure why she, nor anyone would choose Oregon soccer. I'm sure she could have played at any other Pac 12 school.

Huge kudos to Kat for recruiting her and hope she gets to stay to coach her. The team will get a giant boost. Landing recruits of national team caliber is a good reason to keep Mertz another few years.
