Will thorns play on age level in OYSA?

They sandbagged in the beaver ton cup. Will they play up to U17 in OYSA? Or will they sandbag? Theoretically they took some of the better players from those OYSA teams so playing on age U16 would be sandbagging for easy wins.

    I sure hope not.

Parents had no say in what tournament the girls played in. Take up your issues with the coach.

Stop with the insults. Makes you look like a jerk.

Until Thorns Academy is free, parents have all the say because they control the wallets.

If they don't play on age they won't get any wins. Probably won't even win on age...

The u16 thorns team would cruise to a state cup championship on age. They took top players from every club in the state except Bend and Medford. Bend won't have a strong 01 team so Medford looks to be their best competition in u16.

The question is what is the long term goal of Thorns. If they want to win state cup and go to regionals its there for the taking. However, they are burning goodwill at an alarming rate. Beaverton cup was a huge mistake and resentment is boiling over. If they play on age and assure that every other team in the state is playing for second in state cup, they will cement their status as the villains of youth soccer.

And maybe they don't care. I sure don't know. But right now a big part of their marketing is being the "anti-ECNL." They claim to be cheaper and a more positive environment. If costs end up being as high as anticipated, and they continue building their reputation as the most hated program in the state, they may have a tough time fielding competitive teams. Oh, they'll get the delusional families who think their kid is gonna win the lottery and make the USWNT. But that won't be enough to fill a roster with players strong enough to compete in the GDA. And the girls they will want from that team will be turned off by the restrictive rules about practice and other sports, or the travel, or the fact that the team is so hated. Scoff all you want but it matters to kids and to their parents.

With all that said, it still pales in comparison to the idiocy and delusional thinking exhibited by FC PDX & CU for making parents pay thousands upon thousands dollars for the elite distinction of being sacrificial Lambs in the ecnl format.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Thorns has a great opportunity to capitalize on yours and other people's unhappiness with ECNL in Oregon. Playing on age in Beaverton and in OYSA league is not the way to do that.

Nothing trumps the idiocy of the Timbers lemmings on TS.

Huh? The only people unhappy at their local clubs in the PDX area are those players/famlies whose club has chosen to play in the ECNL, the unhappiness is centered around the cost and the reality it's not elite and our state doesn't have 10 elite teams to compete in the current structure. Oregon simply can't be expected to supply the kind of talent and coaching needed to support 10 teams in a so called Elite National league. The ECNL made a poor decision allowing Oregon to send 10 teams into their structure given our population and level of achievement, If the ECNL is branching out it's reach into the average smaller market club teams as the targeted audience, then they should change their label to MLCL (Mediocre Local Club League). It is what it is, but's it's an expensive foray.

from an outside perspective it would seem that the DA going w/ 1 team would be the remedy for this. if the top few truly elite players in OR are frustrated due to the talent being spread so thin, wouldn't the thorns DA team be the answer for them?

They went one step further combing the top talent from 2 age groups to form just 1 team. They want only the best and most elite players playing together from all the accepted clubs.
                          Smart move.

Not so smart when they know they won't get even 10% of the top talent. But if pretending to be elite is what floats the Thorns boat, more power to them.

I don't profess to know why they sandbagged playing on age in the Beaverton Cup. But I highly doubt they would play on age in OYSA. If they did there is nothing but downside for them.
