Don't worry so much about that. When the players take the field they will play how they play. At the end of the day, in sports it comes down to what happens on the field.

I also agree with your thoughts here. However, I have seen the "rare" parents you speak of right here on LI from these "elite" clubs...kids crying on the field and yelling back at their parents to stop because they are embarrassed. Parents cussing at children and telling their little prodigies to take other girls out. You've seen them too...they're typically the ones trolling close the sidelines - never sitting, always standing...generally pacing. Parents yelling across the field at coaches and accosting them right after games.

Both types are toxic to this soccer community. I also know its not limited to LI.

My personal opinion is that you cannot make another adult do anything they don't want to. However, if these academies took their development of players seriously, they would never allow this behavior. They'd notice how this toxicity bleeds onto the field. Changing what should be a socially dynamic experience to an 'all about me' or 'my kid spells team with an I' disaster.

But, oh well...the cycle will continue for years to come because all of these clubs aren't focused on the greater good of developing quality competition as much as they care about which parent can threaten the most with a bigger check.

Our national landscape is a mess. I wish someone could truly see how lucrative the foreign soccer program models are; perfect them here and be about that. If we take away the funding of these youth programs from the parents...and had the federation apportion scholarships to clubs that recruit competitive players based on true ability....well then, we might have a start to something truly special....

I agree clubs need to squash it. The good ones do. But many do not. They're too desperate to keep a good player no matter how toxic the player or parents may be. Many clubs are too desperate to keep players at all. There's too many clubs, not enough talent.

Teenage girls that LISC is using as marketing tools, so if it bothers you so much, take it up with the club. Oh and nobody can post anything even neutral (let alone negative) on BOTN because LISC is paying a boatload of $$$ to have comments censored. The only thing you'll find about LISC on BOTN is hoardes of advertising-full color ads as banners and in thread comments, scrolls pushing their "meetings" and "player ID" aka tryouts and "Big" "game changing" (lol) announcements of same old, same old. Even a legitimate question is met with some ridiculous response from LM about being jealous that-your kid doesn't have what it takes to play at LISC, which we all know is laughable considering LISC will take any kid with a pulse.

Do you watch sports? Competing in sports exposes players for what they can bring to the game and what they need to work on.

I would bet most posters on TS have kids playing at a high level. They are pretty dominant at a lower level. They move up to greater competition and it is much harder to succeed when challenged by other strong players. When the whistle blows the kids have to do what they can do and mom and dad dont have much to do with it, especially as they get older.

If you want him to go away, why do you keep responding, and always with bait? There are not 20 clubs on LI advertising tryouts the way LISC is. If you want people to take the club seriously, stop posting such rubbish.

Unicorns in sports

Do you believe in unicorns also?

Actually the term Unicorn is being used more frequently in sports. Mostly in basketball to describe a once in a generation talent. It is starting to be used in soccer to describe the 1% population of NT players getting "full rides" to college. The term is used out west quite often now to describe the annual can't miss recruits going to UCLA and Stanford. Not sure if the Northeast has seen that caliber of player in awhile. Crystal Dunn comes to mind of someone who would be described in that manner.

This is what LISC had on BOTN last week. First point is about reduced fees. "Come meet the coaches and see why it is the best environment for your daughter"

They did press releases when players signed with them. So what? Fury did it last year at the start of the GDA. Did you complain then? I bet not. Other clubs have done it too.

LISC took pictures and made a big deal out of a couple of club hoppers and a handful of kids they were able to talk into playing with them again. Gimme a break

Not the OP, but you are getting hung up on semantics. They communicated externally with details about the particular players. And you are the one that sounds misinformed...for GDA, you do sign a contract.

Most teams have player "contracts", but let's be real, it's not a legally binding document. Faux "press releases" (lol), with kids propped in front of a LISC step and repeat is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Lucky for LISC the GDA took pity on them and gave them the weakest schedule they possibly could. Kids playing NPL and EDP will face much tougher competition!

But the family will most likely still be on the hook to the club unless an agreement can be reached to dissolve the contract.
