It’s lost it’s luster in today’s “everyone gets a trophy/medal” era that we live in. NLI day is not meant for the D3 athlete and their parents/HS AD’s to splash their kids all over the place. It’s not their day. Should they be celebrated? Of course, but not on NLI day, that doesn’t exist for D3 athletes. Somehow it’s become that way, “look at my kid, look at me, we’re signing our NLI to swim at Goucher College”.

And yet that kid that swims at Goucher will get a better education that the idiot who took $5k of athletic money to play at Stony Brook and, overall, less than 7% of HS athletes play a sport in college, so there is still some accomplishment whether you recognize it or not. The kid at Goucher will also likely not ride the pine nearly as much as 2/3 of the super special soccer player cones at the D1 level (yep ... 2/3 of the players are practice player cones!!!). If you want to gloat about what a stud your kid is, tell us about the extraordinary soccer school that they went to and please tell us about their experiences with the national team .... how many gold medals have they won in the olympics, world cups .... stop the ******* contest ..... 3/4 of D1 programs (if not far more) are absolutely horrific soccer (despite all of the internationals). Great, your kid is fast and tall and cant trap or receive a ball let alone stay in a series of 1-2s. Does your kid know what an overlap is .... sorry, no matter the level of play, lots of stupid players out there.

Congratulations on your wonderful rant that’s loaded with assumptions throughout, especially the part about staying in a series of 1-2s or knowing what an overlap is (stupid). Not the OP, but their point was 100% factual. NLI day is for D1/D2 athletes to sign their National Letter of Intent. Plain and simple. The OP also stated that all D3 athletes should be celebrated as well, they simply shouldn’t do it on NLI day as there is no NLI for them. I don’t have an issue with it, but it is kind of funny how they’re jumping in on something that simply doesn’t involve them. As the OP also stated, this is our current mentality “medal for all”.

This post is everything wrong with soccer parents. Dumbass

Smacks of Oakwood arrogance as well.

2% of players go onto D1 at any level. That means for the most part the other 98% weren't in the discussion. NLI "Early Signing Day" is intended to recognize athletes that were recruited early and received financial consideration. It's D1 and D2 only. No one else is signing anything.

This is typical behavior from the trophy generation parents.

                    This thread happens every year.

It's like celebrating your birthday when it's not actually your birthday.

Have an NLI day for those getting $. Have another in the spring acknowledging all the club or school athletes going on to play in college with no "signings." Almost no one knows the difference but it will keep the whiners quiet.

At our hs it's all d1/d2 including Ivy League. It's more about the school bragging as Ivy League doesn't give $$ and just because you are playing d1 or d2 doesn't mean you are getting $$. If you are going to include those not getting $$ why not include d3?

you missed the point. an NLI is for athletes who are receiving athletic scholarships. I have nothing against the Ivy League, but when it comes to NLI's it is in the same category as D3. NLI signing day has nothing to do with the quality of school that is being attended and everything to do with athletic money received. point is if a hs is allowing non-scholarship athletes to participate, they should let d3 athletes participate as well.
