The Gerbil is stealing more of your money than you think

10+ years ago instead of Gerbil tournaments, local clubs used to host their own tournaments as fundraisers and raise funds they did. By going to Gerbil, you killed off these tournaments and no longer have that fundraiser to lower your costs. So Gerbil hasn't just raised tournament prices. It's also forced you to spend more of your own money.

If you must go to Gerbil:
    Boycott paid parking
Boycott paying admission. Your kids will think going to a game by themselves is awesome.
    Boycott the concession stand
    Boycott the paid photographers
    Boycott the gift shop
    Boycott the Gerbil owned hotels
Boycott Gerbil parks and go to Universal studios
Complain loudly when you get a bad schedule, bad field, bad referee so Gerbil knows it actually has to create an experience worth the money

Did I miss any other ways Gerbil makes money?

As a parent from out of state, we like coming to the Disney tournaments because they are a fun event. We don't mind the parking or the money grab, because it is once a year. The fields are great, the hotels are fun for the kids and it is a vacation for the family. We always go to the parks there as well.

we are the primary target audience for these tournaments, not the local teams. I am surprised you local teams play in them at all. Just let the out of town folks play them.

          Nice manners.

Actually, I will keep having my teams make trips to Disney for good tournaments against good teams, pay my fees, visit the parks, eat out and have a great time.

Don't care if there are any local Florida teams there anyway. Not many good teams in Florida so you can have your own tournaments over in the bayous or fields surrounded by Gators.

We like the mouse eared complex.
          Good day to you.

Pot meets Kettle. It's not like there are tons of people in FL discussing gerbils, just the few of you here on TS.

Fact of the matter is tournaments scheduled for Labor Day, Thanksgiving, New Year's are big draws for out of town tourists. They get to play soccer and experience Disney within a holiday weekend that they probably didn't have to take much extra time off for. As a prior poster said, it's geared to out of towners, let them come. They boost our economy. If you don't get that, well you're as intelligent as your prior F post.

Why wouldn't you rather play at a tournament sponsored by a local Orlando club, pay less, and then go to Gerbil World or Universal Studios? Or play at a tournament near the beach and go to the beach? Half the time, you don't even get to play at Gerbil's own fields and then you're losing vacation time driving to Auburndale or Austin Tindale. And what do you guys do on the last day when you can't do late checkout at the hotel because your games are too far away to make it back?

Not saying that wouldn't work and if they put on a great tournament in FT Lauderdale, or Miami with all the best teams in the country, that would be a consideration.

As it stands, the only place we are interested in is Disney Showcase tourneys due to prestige of field and fun venue. It will be hard to outclass the Gerbil.

Same county fields anyone else could rent
Same crappy refs anyone else could rent
Same crappy concession stand food but more expensive
Same crappy teams getting mercy ruled by the water break
Two mile walks to the Gerbil fields
Massive delays getting into the Austin Tindale parking lot

                      Yep, that Gerbil is class.

All games previously were at ESPN Wide World of Sports for my kids. Don't know what you are talking about with county fields.

ESPN facility is great, hotels are close, downtown Disney is fun for dinner and hanging out. Space Mountain is a blast and Epcot is educational. Ever been on Soarin? What a ride.

These tourneys are destination events. Still don't know why local teams even play them if they hate them so much. Put on your own tourney on the same dates and compete for teams head up. The market will decide who is best.

That is no good, but not trying to get into a social debate about corporate pay policies or corporate social responsibility.

Just think they have cool tournaments and like the trips.

The chocolate cake and pastries in the France section of Epcot are great, ever had one?

The Indiana Jones show at Hollywood was my kids favorite and you never would have guessed the person from the audience was really a plant/actor.
