    why GPS are so bad for American soccer

    We all know that GPS are killing American soccer with their pay to play 4k+ a year

    you would at least hope they are decent, But then you see today, in their own tournament, after all this money, their U18 BOys lose by 6 to Explosion and their u19 elite boys 7-1 to Commonwealth from Braintree.

    When will people wake up

    4K+ .... What location? Please back up that claim... Are you including all travel, hotel, gas costs? That’s the only way that I can see you getting close to 4K+ unless other areas of the state are waaaay more expensive than where my son plays.

      Just ignore. Poster has an agenda. Probably a coach from some no-name rinky dink club with an inferiority complex. His cost is way off and the teams he is referring are lower level teams. This poster obviously doesn't coach girls or have daughters, as I know ECNL player families that are in $20k/yr...

        Best post ever. Congrats to your son on beating the gps 10th and 11th team at the age group.

          Big whoop a D team of seniors (who just don't care at this point ) lost. Kids are playing soccer and that is good. This level isn't "ruining " soccer. Ussf is managing to do that all on their own.

            Is NEFC bigger than GPS in MA now, or is GPS still the biggest?

              My D did 6 years of ECNL and we never came close to $20K, even during the heavy showcase and nationals years.

                Only way you spend that much is if you travel first class and bring the whole family. Family travel is optional. Most we ever spent was about 9500, like you said in heavy showcase years at that. If we had sent her with another family it would have been even less.

                    A particularly energetic rant for you. Hope things are well and your miserable life shows signs of improvement.

                      You're crazy if you spend close to $10k on kids soccer.

                        What do YOU decide is the delineation point for crazy spending? Aren't there lots to factor in before making that determination?

                        * Income level
                        * # of children
                        * what else you spend your $$ on

                          You'd love the chance to spend that money.

                            GPS costs about 3700 before travel for a year.

                            for that you get a nice bag and Bayern munich knockoff shirt

                            you get a bunch of kids with the same bad hair cuts and rich parents on the sidelines loving that their kids coach is british.

                            most of their teams are awful except their top team which is only because they have hundreds of kids to pick from.

                            GPS - PAY TO PLAY - one reason usa mens soccer did not qualify for world as top level soccer out of reach for average kids

                              USSF doesn't care about average kids; true top players do play for free but on a limited basis. But even then they will have paid something along the way to get there.

                              Regardless, they don't care about building the sport. I'm all for average, even terrible kids, playing and developing a love of the game. Any level is good. But when it's out of reach for many families and many others leave the sport out of frustration with cost or lack of opportunities then there's an issue. But we aren't blessed with clubs in every town like they are abroad. We dont' have the culture for that. So until that starts to change youth soccer will remain a costly pay to play venture for families that can afford it.
