If you've ever gone to a town planning meeting or board of ed, you know town government isn't always the best and brightest. If schools aren't running renting fields is off the table. Local residents will have a fit if kids aren't in school but can play sports.

It's basic economics. In a system such as ours, where there is no barrier to crossing a state border, this is basically a tax that will drive business over the border. I.e., teams will go to ME, NH, VT, NY, RI, and/or CT to play games (presuming at least some of those states' restrictions aren't as draconian).

If schools are closed will parents let their kids play soccer? Drag them around just to play? Will states allow outsiders to use facilities? Doubtful. Some towns won't even let non residents to use their parks or beaches right now.

I'm not sure I follow your first questions...

There is no correlation between schools and soccer. So, yes, without a doubt, if schools are closed and trainings are being held, my kid is going. Why wouldn't they?

For someone to use the term "drag them around just to play" makes me wonder if you should've even had kids...

When you sign your kid up its with th the expectation practices will be held in x location. Now parents will drive to RI or CT? Most will not, especially not for younger players.

Besides if schools aren't open there will not be organized sports. There is no way the state can justify it vs having students back learning.

The reason for schools closing have nothing to do with athletics. So, there will be no correlation between schools closing and private clubs, unless the State sticks to their draconian mandates.

There are people that already drive 1+ hours for trainings, I don't see this being any different.

Soccer is played outdoors and coaches are non-union employees.

Schooling takes place indoors and teachers have a strong union.

The teacher’s union will keep fall classes online.

Hell yes, hell yes, and I'm pretty sure yes.

Hell yes, because reasons for keeping schools closed are not applicable for playing a sport on an outdoor field.

Hell yes, because my kids get a lot out of playing the game, both physically and psychologically, so I would facilitate that.

And I'm pretty sure if a state is allowing MA residents to come across the border in order to patronize the local casino, then they are probably also allowing them to come on over to enjoy some outdoor physical activity among the locals.

High end clubs rent. Most regular clubs get school fields for free, or just about free. And the schools don't want the risk and don't want to take on the responsibility of making sure that the clubs using their grounds are taking temperatures, doing contact tracing, etc.

Is anyone on TS worried about anything but high end clubs?

Believe it or not but the other 99% care about soccer too.

Probably, but this thread is specifically "...what now for club soccer," so...

HS sports will be shut down because of social distancing regulations in busing sports teams. What would normally be 1 bus for varsity and jv to travel now becomes 2 or 3. so yes, lack of funding.
