Good to see Thorns Academy is letting girls do track. Combined with the aforementioned older girls playing soccer, sounds like they are relaxing the ban on high school sports.

I know that Thorns staff read this board. You should clarify that its' ok to do high school sports.

They allow some girls to do high school sports and not others?

Most coaches turn a blind eye.

I wouldn't go so far as say they are letting the girls do high school sports. The truth is that they need the players way more than the players need them. So if one of the players decides to go to a high school sporting event instead of a thorns event, the smart thing would be to pretend they don't know about it.

What are they going to do if a player defies them? The thorns are already struggling, so they aren't going to cut off their nose to spite their face. Rosters are pretty bare bones it appears.

Kids and families are slowing figuring out they get to call the shots, not the other way around. This is a good development.

So for 2003 and 2004's will they let them play HS soccer? That might help get some better skilled kids at try outs.

Can't get worse than they have now.

The timbers kids soccer staff know full well they need as many players to stick around as possible so I imagine the are not going to try to stop kids from playing high school sports.

As long at this results in kids being able to play high school sports that will be a step in the right direction.

You all realize that girls can play any high school sport they want. Girls can play in the band, be on the debate team, sing in the choir, play the lead in the school musical or spend everyday hanging out with their bf or bffs. GDA isn’t forcing anyone to do or not do anything! Simply don’t go out for GDA if that level of soccer concentration isn’t for you. There are many choices in soccer and in life. Quit whining when the choice is in your own power. The choice you make is all on you.

The GDA coaching is pretty good. The programming isn’t very good. Wasting time to travel to play Burlingame and PSV Union is no good.

The ban on high school sports is ridiculous.

They let girls play high school soccer this year. Rumor has it thorn girls played basketball, cross country and lots are doing track.

It’s not as oppressive as it sounds.
