I'm, frankly, tired of people looking to government for the answer to things. The answer lies with us. We have the power and need to exert it. Enough of allowing government to control a criminal justice system that is more focused on keeping over-crowding to a minimum and, therefore, lets criminals roam our streets. Enough with the blanket concept of rehabilitation when it is patently obvious that some people can't or won't be rehabilitated.
Stop looking to government for your answers. They are the cause of most of the problems. They are a bunch of out-of-touch, unethical, narcissistic money-grabbers living off the largess of us; the people who go to work every day and make this country what it is. Doesn't it strike you as odd when a career politician runs on a platform that you need him/her there to fix all of our problems, when they have been there all along as the problems have grown exponentially? Having years of experience in government should mean you are unqualified to serve........

The fact that this happened to a player at the CASL tourney really brings it home for me. It could have happened to my kid, very, very easily.

Not all democrats are "bleeding heart liberals". Not all republicans are tough guys. I am democrat. I believe in owning guns, strong military and death penalty. A 28 time felon out in the streets is absolutely insane. The system is to blame not the gun. Evil people will find a way to do evil. They do not need to be on the same streets with us. A 28 time felon has no rights. Like the old days, exile or death.... Absolutely horrific tragedy. The guilt the club and chapperone must feel. The damage done to the friend next to the boy. The pain the family has to carry. Unimaginable..

We probably should not get into a debate about gun laws but many of your examples were not accidents: Zimmerman was not an accident it was self defense. Also the Wesley Chapel movie theater shooting was a psychopath - Who else shoots someone during an argument about texting? If guns were less available would some of these crimes not happen? Yes. Some would turn into stabbings or beating deaths (cant outlaw knives or fists by the way). Evil people find ways to hurt others. The solution is not to limit their arsenal. Its to limit THEM.

Harshest penalties possible for those committing crimes, especially violent crimes, should be enforced. We need to stop protecting the career criminal with a three strikes and life in prison. We need to enforce the laws already on the books and protect the law abiding citizens of this country. If that were done to this 28 time convicted felon, that little boy/young man would still be alive today.
Guns never have killed anyone. People have killed with guns. Anyone with the desire to kill does not need a gun to get it done… Vehicles, bombs, knives, bats, kitchen knives, scissors, etc., amongst many other tools have been used to commit heinous violent crimes including the taking of another life. People are the problem and this man was one of "those people" a convicted felon that has no regard for anyone but himself.
Again truly a tragedy for this young man, the family, and his teammates. My prayers are with all of them.

Sorry, the second paragraph second sentence should have read…
We need to stop protecting the career criminal with light sentences, and enforce a three strikes and life in prison... With first-time violent crime felony convictions having a minimum 15 year prison term.

Get off the soap boxes, this isn't the place to push gun control.. Pay respects and move on, this could have your child or mine.

Clearly this man was not a "responsible" gun owner ... wouldn't you say? However it does appear he was law abiding, and certainly not a career criminal. The point of my post was obviously not that every shooting has a career criminal behind it (as you well know), but that people cause harm not their chosen instruments. Why do you feel the need to deny this thesis when you know its true? Do you think 28-time convicted felons are save among us as long as guns are illegal? If not, what is the point of your post?
And, yes, clearly any parent that leaves a loaded gun on a table with toddlers in the house is not responsible, and it may be fair to say, "Criminal."
Yes, agreed that people are the ones that cause harm, but someone in a movie theater can have the potential to cause much more harm with a semi automatic than a knife. And, better gun control aka better gun safety, may eliminate the easy opportunity for accidents, convicts, psychotics, etc.

Smart guns are a step in the right direction, and would not allow a toddler to shoot themselves, nor a convict with a records of 28 violations.
So, how about getting off Fox Network sheep herding channel?
