For my kid, it is a waste of time and will not be playing next year.
We tried club, and it was a joke. Our club makes a new name for itself in antidevelopment, poaching, parent hijacking, and one of the most exorbitant fees in Florida. If you have a good club, stay with them no matter what; grass is not greener, and forced accents that may seem charming are nothing more than greedy wolves in sheep's clothing!

tell us either who the premier club is or what school the great JV team hails from; otherwise, just the HS v Club troll again. too obvious to be anything more.

new to what area? the rest of your post is just as confusing. stop the hs v club trolling too, everyone. we know that playing HS is not the golden ticket. get seen via club and work of player, that's reality.

My kid plays high school and high school quality is horrible. Travel is only chance to be seen. No college coaches recruit high school because it is terrible.

Why do you complain about the quality of HS soccer? Coach has 2-3 weeks to get a team together, and ages vary 1-3 years for the most part although some schools go from freshman-senior. There is no enormous tryout pool like club, and sometimes the HS has to go with what it has (inexperienced keeper, no defenders, no forwards, etc).

However, almost every club player still wants to play for their HS; why is that?

90% of all club players will never go on to college or anything else with soccer, so stop fooling yourself that club is going to get your kid some place great! Club is all about the money, and usually a personal agenda for those running it or at the top, and all you are is the cash cow and the means for the agenda.

i don't think anyone is really complaining about the quality of HS soccer, they are though tired of those that think HS is BETTER than club, which is clearly wrong. i'd also say that 100% of my daughter's club team was recruited to play in college so your stat is a bit off. i think those that really want to play in college can, they just need to realize that the "college" that is available, may not be their first choice school. keep it real and you can play. after all, for most i think it is a way to pay for some of their higher education, and for us, that's great.

National team coach here and just gotta agree with this post. HS offers so much more to kids than club. And for those kids that are serius players they should be in the national pool and not with local clubs or HS. Otherwise it is all rec and don't be kidding yourself.

OK National Coach. You are correct. High School is so much better than rec. My kids plays both and I see both. High School is terrible. Quality of play is poor, coaching is below average, field conditions are poor (there are a few exceptions). Many high school players are kids that can't make travel teams or play for B teams or weak travel clubs. Have you gone to any high schools lately? Pick any game and you will be sadly mistaken. It has gone downhill quickly.

HS and club are rec. Elite players must do more to make it to pros. Yet few make it thus enjoy rec.
