Interesting question--since BECNL Washington couldn't combine with a BECNL Oregon due to the different boys high school seasons, how many teams would have to leave OYSA to form a viable league. Oregon DA was barely viable with six teams last season, less than that would be too small. (Playing the same five opponents year round got to be old).

Along with trying to increase their cachet and bolster their recruitment numbers, by saying "we're better than those OYSA schlubs", a dubious claim when it's largely the same clubs they played the year before.)
Be certain that if FC, UPDX, ADF, OPFC, etc. do move to BECNL, that Eugene, Bend, Rogue Valley, and Capitol (let alone Latino clubs like Cuervos, LAFC/IFC, or the various things that have arisen out of the ashes of 4H) will NOT be invited to join. Whether Eastside, Westside, or PCU joins in will participate is a good question. (Cony, after all, managed to help blow up both the OPL and the Oregon DA, taking WT into both leagues originally, and then leaving when he realized than neither any better than OYSA)
And US Club seems to be eager to admit any USYSA team, or at least skim the cream off of the top. And given the lack of a non-profit rule, don't be surprised if SCA gets to join, too!
Fun times.
BECNL has no desire in growing too big that they can’t manage the quantity while failing on quality.

Oysa
OYSA is the league for the foreseeable future. We are better together than some USDA or OPL or BECNL.

What’s really going to chap everyone’s hide is when another Girls ECNL Club joins the area. There are plenty of players to do so

Why would a another Portland girls team join the ECNL? The two we have suck.
For the boys teams parents want their Johnny to play DA and BECNL because is sounds good. Stop running from the Thunder dome !

The enduring weirdness of Portland soccer is that you could put a very good team together of TA rejects and holdouts capable of competing regionally, but everyone insists on playing for one of 3-5 garbage clubs.

Gps
Yes ECNL wanted these players but not the Mickey Mouse nightmare BSC HSC GPS now Oregon FC (or something) registered under LAFC (or something) no one wants to deal with that nightmare.

"Competing regionally" is a piss-poor reason. Nobody really cares that occasionally a local club makes USYS Finals, especially if it's a rival club. Having all the top talent training together ("steel sharpens steel") is a somewhat better reason, but there's still the problem that if you DO assemble a superteam, then they have to travel (or play up in age) to find a worthy opponent.
What do you mean by a "garbage club", anyway? Do you mean one that simply hasn't assembled a superteam, and has players on the roster that aren't TA candidates? Or is this a way of casting aspersions at the coaching staffs of the other clubs in town, other than the one that you think should get the superteam?

Not a one-ring circus led by a clown, one who has worn out his welcome in several states already, and probably will leave Oregon once the 03s age out.
