If a D1/D2 coach offers a player a partial athletic scholarship and the player also qualifies for some merit money (4.5 GPA, 33 ACT, ranked one of the highest in their class), can they also apply for outside scholarships without it countering against athletic as long as it doesn't go higher than total COA? And how does financial aid work with an athletic offer? If our EFC is $19k a year but the total packaged offer still requires us to contribute a total of $29k, if our student received loans and work study to make up the $10k difference, would this work? Or if they won an outside scholarship for $3000, how does this work?

Here's one of many on line resources https://www.ncsasports.org/blog/2018...es-recruiting/
If they have to take out loans do the federal max first (5500 year one, then 6500/7500/7500). Federal loans ha e the lowest interest rates and best terms vs private. Keep in mind finding time for work study asa student athlete will be challenging
