First, most of these teams are not sponsored by or tied to an MLS team - they are just run of the mill travel soccer clubs. These club charge a mint and are few and far between. DA from beginning to end was a money grab. US Soccer ostensibly established it to help develop players for the mens team. Once they saw ECNL making money they established GDA. The idea that you would develop better soccer players by:

1) making soccer more expensive;
2) reducing the opportunities for game play;
3) forbidding high school particpation without a confusing waiver process;
4) Eliminating coaches who can't afford licensing

is stupid beyond belief. The DA system is just a cash cow. Anyone who thinks that soccer will progress because we belittle players from families with modest incomes or who aren't able to travel an hour each way to practice is a moron.

I'm glad to have my Holiday's off and spend quality time with family and not on a soccer field on mother's day chasing a contaminated lead based metal made in China.

Johnny can see his friends develop and represent DA in national showcases while Johnny's daddy drives around the entire state to play worthless games. DA actually tells clubs they have to make it so players ability to pay does not have any bearing on if they can join or not. Then in the next breath they require club to provide more things than a regular team but for less money. Not sure how they are supposed to do that unless make the other members pay for them.
