Talk about learning to grow up fast. While you make your DD a warm breakfast every morning, she’s trying to figure out when she can get to the grocery store for tampons and top ramen while trying to balance practice, homework and a car with 19 miles left before an empty tank. It's easy to point fingers and look down your nose at people and circumstances you just don't understand. Poor sportsmanship is never acceptable but you should seek to put yourself in others shoes before being so judgmental. Every child doesn’t come from the Beaverton cul-de-sac or West Linn upper middle class neighborhood. Life is not fair and some days it sucks enough to fly the bird and tell everyone to pound sand.
Well, she had me at rude gesture + a bunch of soccer moms getting their panties in a bunch over it.

Background story pulls at some heartstrings, but the story read better when she just didn't give a ****.

South Eugene crowd deserved it. South Eugene crowd was pretty much on #12 with some inappropriate comments all night. That part was obviously left out of the original post. Player fires back and SE dad is having a tizzy fit. The best part about it was she scored and sent your freshmen girls crying to mommy and daddy.

South Eugene is full of a bunch of cry babies and hypocrites. Your crowd was classless thru out the whole game. You guys suck!

You should have heard the rude gestures from the SE crowd.

Great how a 17 year old got the best of them with the goal and middle finger.

The lone goal Glencoe scored was essentially an own goal by Eugene. Sunset will be fine.
Glencoe has only 2 or 3 club players and it sounds like they pretty much controlled the entire match.

Can say the same thing about your PK win against the 3rd place team in the Moutain Hood Conference. You were outplayed in that game also, and got lucky to get to PKs.

Main difference is you don't get a bunch of OC parents on here crying about the results.

When you talk about class, you should start with your own group before trying to pick on a 17 year old. You guys are the adult for God's sake.

IMO Glencoe coach knows her and his players. The blame rightly goes to the adult. He or she should have addressed that to her and the team long before the incident in Eugene.

Yes well and then you face bullies, *******s, and Trump-supporters . . . and then you have to figure out what to do about it.

In real life you don't always get to tell folks to **** off.

One liberating aspect of sports is that you don't have to take it every time - sometimes you can score a goal, give the finger to the other team, and only sit for a few minutes. Those days are rare unfortunately.

She could have gone to the corner and cried - she didn't. Gives me some hope for America (need some background music for that last sentence).

Did the Eugene coach address his home crowd on etiquette as well?

The incident in Eugene was as much SE as #12

Says the parent that has never faced any real world struggles. Man get over yourself. If you had to live for one day in someone else's shoes it would be a real eye opener for you.

                      South Eugene is a bubble.

                          Unbiased opinion SE v Glencoe

My DD has club friends on the South team so we went. Here is my perspective:

South fans were unbelievably rude. Kids were loud and argumentative with the SEHS staffer who drew the short straw and was charged with controlling them. South had barriers set up because apparently in their last game the students were almost rushing the field during PK's.

Both teams' fans were unbelievably rude during PK's. Hint - screaming as the other team's player takes a shot might also distract your keeper.

South had a great early goal that obviously rattled Glencoe. Glencoe pounced on the opportunity presented when South's veteran keeper went out. But the dirty play of the game in my opinion was the Glencoe player taking out South's best defender with a late tackle to the back of the ankle 15 yards off the ball. Ref didn't see it but it was bad. Yellow card for sure. Glencoe scored with South's starting keeper and best defender receiving treatment for injury.

I had no issue with 12's goal celebration. It was cool to see a girl display so much passion. Her flipping the crowd off was classless and I don't care about her difficult life circumstances. Not cool. HOWEVER, and no South parents seem to want to bring this up, the SEHS student section chanting "F**k 12!" after her goal proved that family stability and parental income doesn't guarantee classy behavior.

Bottom line I think South would have won if not for the unfortunate injury to their keeper. But I left the game feeling like neither team deserved the win or acted remotely like they'd been there before.

Too funny - can flip off someone on a soccer field (sometimes), but it can get in the real world: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...red/837313001/

I give Lincoln a good chance against them. Lincoln looked to have started very slow, struggled to score but seemed to have figured things out and have been able to put a few balls in the net.
Did you watch any of the games or are you just coming to conclusions based on the scores?

College coaches do NOT like that kind of play or the kinds of players that live that way.
Classless thugs aren't appreciated anywhere. Doesn't matter your background, sportsmanship is key and is a measure of character not wealth. A UCONN women's soccer player lost her scholarship for flipping the bird in elation after the game while hugging a teammate. Hope Solo was let go from USWNT for calling Sweden team cowards, etc. Disagree with both since male players are allowed much much worse. Kids from a disadvantaged background should be especially careful since they don't have the safety net that wealthier kids have. Another thing is please don't mention about teams/families' immigration status online in today's America. You never know who is reading.
