But sure the best athletes is what's missing.

How many african countries are in the fifa top 25, i would estimate they are more athletic than european, south american, and asian teams?

You only need to be athletic enough, to be a world class soccer player technical and cognitive skills make the difference.
my point exactly take an athletic kid and teach player technical and cognitive skills . Or are you saying just because someone is athletic that you can not teach them skills?

Let's face it, its entirely a cultural thing. We gravitate towards those that are like ourselves, so if you're a black kid, are you going to watch or play baseball where less than 8% of MLB players are black or are you going to gravitate towards basketball and football where 75% and 70% are black respectively.

Latinos will gravitate towards soccer for obvious reasons and baseball where 32% of MLB players are Latino.

And as far as the BEST athletes participating in this sport or that, unless you are unequivovally saying that black athletes are superior to their white and Latino counterparts then just having more black athletes on the soccer field would mean better soccer.

If that were simply the case then why don't the African nations or the Jamaican team enjoy more success??

Wrong. There is no way any athlete can just decide to play soccer or even golf? Doesn't matter how athletic you are?

I think the point was, those two sports take years of practice to develop skills.

Yes. You just don't decide to play these sports in middle school or high school and expect to even be competitive or good, even at the high school level?

In Spain, scouts from La Liga decide. Spain benefits. My daughter played against Barcelona's Femme Infantile B (probably spelled that wrong, but it was girls U13-14 equivalent), and one of the coaches said they look for young players that LOVE to play, the joy of the game. They scouted players as young as 5 years old. They watched them for 3-4 years to see how they developed.

Again to me its the investment of resources (time and effort), not just looking for a diamond, the chances of finding even 1 world class player in the U.S. seem slim (it's never happened), but finding several of them to propel the U.S. up the FIFA standing seem even more unlikely. The best soccer countries are willing to do so much more than U.S. soccer entities. Better selection, better coaching, better training, and higher quality competition.

Soccer is growing in popularity here. 15 years ago you would of never found mens leagues playing every night of the week. We would have all been getting fat playing softball or basketball. Things are changing for the better. Fields are popping up everywhere. The money needs to get better scholarships need to get better and training from age 19-24 needs to get better. Our youth teams can hang with some of the best known academies in the world. The youth National teams perform well. So we will get there. I have faith.............

I think less coaching is they key. You don't see pickup games like you do with football and basketball. If anyting American kids are overcoached in soccer and they aren't allowed to discover the game, carve their own identity and become creative. Its all drilled and coached out of them. They have to pass first and not be a ball hog.

You seem to be implying that none of our current players are athletic. That, of course, is pure nonsense. The fact is that speed and size are valued HIGHER in the USA than in any other country. Coaches here are always trying to get the best athletes in the hopes that they will become skilled players and often leave more skilled (and talented) smaller and slower kids (often due to relative age effect) off top teams. Big mistake and the result of pursuing the "best athlete" strategy is USMNT.

You sound like a cheap lawyer. Bra, let’s be real. If ed reed, the great miami hurricane or Sean Taylor rip goat and deon sanders and Allen iverson were America’s back line, Messi would have a hard time getting a shot off. Deal with it white boy.
